Conquer the New world: In the 16th Century, Spanish explorers and soldiers reached the shores of America. The search for gold, fame, and adventure drove these travelers into a treacherous wilderness where they faced hunger, disease, and dangerous predators. In their wake, the Aztec Empires lay in ruins.

Well this game seemingly came out on nowhere, just released on Steam is Expeditions: Conquistador for £16.19 currently as it's 10% off, never heard of it until just now.

Re-write the history of the Conquistadors: Forge diplomatic alliances with the natives... or crush the savages and bring civilization to the pagan tribes! Create an expedition of individual characters: Choose your followers wisely from over 30 characters, but be careful - they each have their own traits, opinions and moral standards.

Hunt for unimaginable riches and fight intense battles in the unforgiving jungle. In this turn based strategy RPG, a cunning plan is as vital as thoughtful resource management. Expeditions: Conquistador offers a rich storyline separated into two campaigns, challenging players throughout 25+ hours of gameplay. Strategy veterans as well as newbies will find their turn-based El Dorado!

Looks interesting and sure is a break from a lot of platformers that come out.

What's more, it is no longer available on Steam. I mean, the page linked from the article returns an error as if the game was deleted or never existed...

Anyway, I'm glad they also embrace Desura and don't attach exclusively to Steam.

I'd definitely be interested in this. Always a nice treat to get away from the super-saturated Pixel-Art games. Yes, I understand a lot of you love them, but I grew up in the 80's and early 90's and have had my Pixel-Art fun already heh ;)

Probably pick it up in a few days. If any of you happen to play it, tell me how good it is if you don't mind. I usually have a lot of trouble buying Games because the descriptions and videos never really tell me enough -- picked up a few 'bad eggs' before. =)

Thanks as always liamdawe for having the #1 go-to Linux Gaming site, at least for me it is. By the way, picked up ZigfraK recently, absolutely amazing Space Game. Fantastic story, has a sort of WoW in Space thing going on. Try it if you haven't already and are looking for a good RPG Space Game. =)

For those whom do not remember, Expeditions: Conquistadors was Kickstarted last August, with their original release estimate set for January of this year.

To my knowledge, this is one of the first Kickstarter games released which pledged to Brian Fargo's Kicking-it-Forward program.  It will be interesting to see how they go about meeting that pledge!  For a long time now, I've been curious about how that would actually play out in practice.

Munt, the URL is working for me, here in the U.S. Either it's a glitch, or a change hasn't propagated to the U.S. CDN (or to the CDN serving your area).

How about trying a page related to the Steam listing, like the Achievements list?

Funny you should say that, I always assumed that pixel-art game lovers were precisely the generation (my generation) that were brought up playing them, and that their haters were mostly teenagers who never enjoyed them and found them simplistic and unpleasant to the eye. It never occurred to me that anybody could grow tired of them... I haven't, that's for sure! :P

Yep, the Steam Community links work fine for me, but not so the Store page for this game. I've tried it again, I've bothered to read the full error message and turns out the game is currently unavailable in my region (EU Tier 2). Guess I'll have to wait, then. :(

Thanks for the tip, I wasn't aware this game was kickstarted. I'm adding it to the wiki, then! :)

I stumbled upon this game a couple of months ago on Greenlight, and had forgotten about it ever since. Didn't know it got greenlit either.

The developers sent me a key for it today, just got a chance to play around half an hour and you know what it's pretty damn good. It's a little bit wordy for my likings but it's early days yet may not be so wordy later on.

The graphics are good, gameplay seems quite fun too.

Have also been added to their PR list so I should get emails before a release pops up in future.

Steam lists Ubuntu 13.04 as the minimum requirement. The Steam page lists DirectX as a requirement for Linux. So I can't be bothered with this game until they clear the confusion. Any of you using 12.04 with this game?.

It would also be devastating to the Steam box which runs on 12.04. The Video card requirements make no sense either. As a 240GT is faster than a 4870 and they list the 280. I myself having a 6670, which is faster than a 4870 and on par with a 240GT. Anymore info on what this game really runs on?.

Edit: There seems to also be a video card overheating issue from the forums. Guess I'll wait a few months.
