Valve Has Yet Again Greenlit 35 More Linux Games For Steam

By - | Views: 13,232
Valve has done the usual and given that greenlight for a ton of indie games to come onto Steam, we highlight the ones with Linux support. We have a nice big 35 games this time around the claim they will support Linux.

My favourites
Aeon Command - I've played it a fair bit as it has been on Desura for some-time and think it's a well built game. I hope this will give them some exposure and funds to expand it.

Shallow Space - Shallow Space is a 3D Real Time Strategy game inspired by Nexus: The Jupiter incident and Homeworld. It looks the part, let's hope the deliver on the Linux promise.

Opinion bit and readers question below
Something to leave this on, how do you feel about games getting greenlit that are still planning to have a Kickstarter as they aren't close to having a releasable version? They may never actually get released and take up the spot of a game that does exist. Is it an issue for you?

For me personally, I would actually prefer it if one of the requirements of greenlight was having a game in a playable state already, it's though enough for indie developers getting exposure as it is, being stuck being possibly hundreds of extremely early alpha-class games must get very disheartening. Lol, Tibia. If it is really only Flash client, that sucks. They had native client some time ago, too.

Aeon Command, I remember some unsolved technical difficulties with that one.

Makes me wonder why people vote for some totally mediocre games while DROD still struggles to get to the top 100. Must be the "greenlight bundles". :-(

Anyhow if you didn't vote for DROD games yet - please do. And if you don't know DROD games yet - try them out ASAP! The first one (full version!) is distributed for free at:

disclaimer: I'm not affiliated in any way with the devs, I'm just a long-time fan. ;-)

So lessee, what excites me in this list?

Well, Otherworld looks like it has potential, but still needs a lot of work.

Black the Fall is...Limbo with guns? There seem to be a few games taking on the Limbo aesthetic these days.

Heileen is notable since it includes the lesbian DLC. Wonder if Steam will make them censor it the way they did with Loren the Amazon Princess.

POP...really surprises me that it got Greenlit. It seems kinda out of place on the Steam platform.

Similarly, Suicide Guy. I mean seriously?

To be honest, the most intriguing to me at the moment is Worlds. There are a few that might look better with more polish, better graphics, etc., but that and maybe Heileen and POP are the only ones I'd really be in a hurry to get for my system. Much lower number than usual, for sure.

Tibia still has a native, stand alone client.

Really? I went to the site earlier and the only option was a login to a flash game :(

Go to tibia.com, scroll down, click "Already registered", click "Download Client", click "I Agree", click "Linux Tibia Client 10.41"? ;-)

I must admit I have ignored the DROD games because of the first impression (graphics mainly). I didn't know I can try the first one for free, I promise I will give it a chance.

BTW. We should write a list with mostly unknown games that are awesome.

I have the same doubt about why a really cool game as cue club 2 hasn't been greenlighted yet. It's just because its not popular.
Have you visited http://whosgamingnow.com/? There is the reason why there are many bad games than have been already greenlighted, because people vote just to get a free key, and not because the game is good.

Well, with methods like that it's no wonder that Valve looks to drop the whole Greenlight process. Instead of promoting good games and barring the crappy ones from entry, it is now doing the exact opposite. I will not shed a single tear for the "greenlight bundles" as I've bought too many of them and hardly enjoyed any game they contained. Well made games would easily get good sales and positive reviews - yet they can't get onto steam because greenlight top100 is flooded with mediocre titles that are buying the votes one way or another...
