Achron, A Time Travelling RTS Has Been Updated

Achron was big news when it originally came out due to real-time time travel in the game, and it still looks cool even now.

Achron is the first and only game to feature single-player and multiplayer free-form time travel. It is the world's first meta-time strategy game, a real-time strategy game where players and units can jump to and play at different times simultaneously and independently.

It certainly makes games very interesting, but sometimes it can be a little difficult to follow that's for sure. You can't just warp to the past, make changes and warp back. You have to wait for some sort of time wave to come and action the changes to the present, so it makes it a little odd at times.

The new update brings various performance improvements that should make it feel smoother overall. To see the game get updated like this ~3+ years after release is fantastic and just shows how committed the developer is.

There's two problems with the game for me and the first is how bland the units and buildings look, and the other is the actual controls feel a little on the clunky side and it just doesn't flow as well as other real time strategy games.

Have you ever tried it? It's 64bit only on Linux, so that could be a deal-breaker for some of you. You get two copies when you order, so you can chuck a friend a key and hop in together online.

It's also on Steam, but the Linux version is missing oddly from the Steam store. Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

Out for Linux on Steam? Not showing up in my library yet. I had fun when I played it. Should play it some more.
