That sounds pretty likely to me as he seems quite interested in it personally. It remains to be seen if the switch to OpenGL and Linux port will come out anytime soon, but this is another very encouraging sign.

there is no trade with the devil you speak of. in order for linux to grow it has to get acceptance of commercial software. as simple as that.
if developer of app A won't write linux version of his software, company that depends on it can never move on linux. that probably means that developer of app B will never see reason to write his own app for linux. every little push matters.
what you preach is false religion that only hurts linux adoption. as long as you can avoid closed software or at least securely contain it when you can't avoid it. free or commercial doesn't matter as long as you're the one deciding

DayZ is far from ready but hopefully it is going to be a great game eventually. I'm a bit disappointed that it will be ported to consoles mainly because it could possible mean sacrifices to UI and gameplay.

DRM free software is just as commercial. it is only the distribution system that is free, the product itself still is unfree. with steam you give up even that freedom - as i said before you do so willingly because they bribe you with convenience. there are a lot of people like you that argue "in order to grow, linux has to do concessions" and while you are right that its the easy way i refuse to accept that its the right one.
you may think that people like me are annoying to bring up such a topic again, but its my conviction that it is the most important one there is for us linux gamers. if there wasnt so much anxiety and discussion going on about freedom of software etc., we wouldnt even be here. it concerns me how people here worship steam without doubts.

I certainly did, and I have enough Steam for Linux games that I can play whatever game suits my current mood, from frenetic action to turn-based strategy, from real-time strategy to adventure, from godlike, action RPG to straight RPG, horror, platform, tower defense, space shooter, puzzle, and MMORPG. Who needs a porous, vulnerable, slow, balky, annoying Windows installation at all?

I am inching closer and closer. I honesly have not booted it to actually use it in forever excpet for about an hour a week or two ago to try out Metro 2033 Redux from my buddies steam acct. just out of curiosity(dont wanna install mine til linux ver). The game is going to be awesome if it really has graphic parity with windows like they "say", though I was annoyed with win after 20 min.
I have 2 250gb samsung 840 evo ssd'd in this rig. One has linux and one has windows.. I'm running out of room on my linux drive because of games mostly. I think I am going to go removing games from windows before long and shrink it's partition to give some to linux so I can have MORE LINUX GAMES! ;) Ive begun testing a lot of my "old" games to find out what does and does not play well with wine. My rig, albeit aging is still fairly powerful so most things seem to run just fine. Would be WONDERFUL if wine started to dig into DX11.
while off topic anyways, I just finished up playing the new Wolfenstein game (in wine, runs perfect) last night. If anyone is a FPS lover and have not played it yet... GO PLAY IT! The best straight up FPS in a LONG time. IMO of course.
Now back to topic. I don't own DayZ, but I would be all over a linux port!!
