By - | Views: 15,508
The new GOL survey for March is now available, so please make sure to fill it in if you have the time.

After many requests, the publication of the new survey and the results of the previous one have been separated into two articles to prevent confusion. The results of the previous survey will be published in the next couple of days.

You can find the link here, and please share with other Linux gamers if you can! Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

After many years of floating through space on the back of a missile, following a successful career in beating people up for not playing Sega Saturn, the missile returned to earth. Upon returning, I discovered to my dismay that the once great console had been discontinued and Sega had abandoned the fight to dominate the world through 32-bit graphical capabilities.

After spending some years breaking breeze blocks with my head for money and being mocked by strangers, I have found a new purpose: to beat up people for not playing on Linux.

QuoteI can imagine building my own "Steam machine" with Archlinux in my living room, so I have a real pc there. I could stream from my desktop then :)

For gaming only? No, I have a Wii (not the U) for that purpose.

Err, not sure how you commented Mr Guest, unless you're logged in there's no option to comment, no textarea shown, if you could be a dear and email me: [email protected] and let me know, that would be swell.

Does a machine qualify to be the term "Steam Machine" unless it runs SteamOS?

While I made two pre-orders last year that I'm very happy with, I know that many people made pre-orders within the last year they are very unhappy with.

I'm suggesting that the pre-order question should have an additional answer available because right now it asks:

Unique Question 1: Have you pre-ordered a Linux game in the last 12 months?

And the answers are:

Yes
No
No, I don't pre-order EVER

There should probably be a "Yes, but I'll NEVER do it again"

Because if an unhappy person who did pre-order in the last 12 months is being 100% honest with the question they will have to answer, "Yes"

The Steam Machine question was a tricky one considering we don't know how the whole thing will work out. Guess we'll learn in a day or two.

Quoting: tuubiThe target audience hardly includes grumpy nerds who have not bought a pre-assembled computer since the Amiga 500.

I lol'd pretty hard at that statement.. I'm the same way. The only "pre-assembled" I've ever purchased are my laptops for obvious reasons ;)

Good point!

I did preordered bl2 presequel, but i understood the spirit of the question and answered "No, I don't pre-order EVER"

I hope you dont accuse me of dishonesty ;)

"Will you be getting a Steam Machine any time after release?"

My answers are "Yes" _and_ "I have already built my own". As they are radio buttons I chose "yes".

I'm building a better box for gaming and I'm going to install SteamOS on it, give it a try. So, that'll be my "Steam Machine." My hope is that SteamOS will easily update Nvidia drivers (current methods I classify as not-so-easy) and will allow the installation of current household media apps: Chrome for Netflix, Radio Tray, Libre Office, etc. If it can't do both these things, (especially the first) than there is little to recommend SteamOS over an Ubuntu install with a Steam client, as far as I can see.

Whichever OS I end up using, the excitement I felt when Valve announced SteamOS was the spark I needed to leave behind my console and begin gaming on my PC . . . my Linux PC.

Nice survey, this one is actually very interesting. Loads of KDE and Debian-Based users around.

I've preordered The Talos Principle because I knew from the demo/test version that it would be working very well and it is just my type of game (and it was even more then I've expected), because it gave me an extra copy of Serious Sam 3 (to gift) and some bucks off. Did not regret. But generally, I would probably not preorder.
