Good news bat lovers everywhere, Batman: Arkham Knight will be available on Linux and SteamOS in Spring 2016.

The game has been through a bit of an iffy time, but hopefully all this extra time to polish it up will be worth it. I've seen one of the previous Batman games like this played, and it looked genuinely good to play, so I'm hopeful this will be a good one too.

Press release copied below:
QuoteBatman™: Arkham Knight coming to Mac and Linux in Spring 2016

This is due to extra development time needed to ensure good performance and wide-ranging support for OS X, Linux and SteamOS.

We would like to thank everyone who has pre-purchased the game for your support, and also for your patience while we work to deliver the best experience possible.

About the game
Batman™: Arkham Knight brings the award-winning Arkham trilogy from Rocksteady Studios to its epic conclusion. Developed exclusively for New-Gen platforms, Batman: Arkham Knight introduces Rocksteady's uniquely designed version of the Batmobile. The highly anticipated addition of this legendary vehicle, combined with the acclaimed gameplay of the Arkham series, offers gamers the ultimate and complete Batman experience as they tear through the streets and soar across the skyline of the entirety of Gotham City. In this explosive finale, Batman faces the ultimate threat against the city that he is sworn to protect, as Scarecrow returns to unite the super criminals of Gotham and destroy the Batman forever. Interesting, as many have no problem with AMD, so I blame Feral and the FUD.

....

....

I don't blame AMD, because I couldn't care less for Blobs. I run Linux not because of the money, but because of it's freedom. I know a lot of people see this differently, but I do (not) care.

...

Hmmm you don't will blame AMD but you blame a Porting House that's don't support AMD, because the Blob AMD Drivers are shity.

And then you talk about freedom?

Why they don't support the opensource driver ? openGL is the reason.

And yes Nvidia have now at this time the better openGL drivers for gaming on Linux.
But i will wait on the AMDGPU drivers, to see if i can play on AMD Hardware in the future on Linux as i can today with Nvidia.

Quoting: Mountain ManWouldn't it be ironic if Feral managed to get this running better on Linux than on Windows? Here's hoping.
I seriously doubt this, as they (probably) aren't wizards. There's a chance if they will use Vulkan (don't really believe in AAA Vulkan ports until Q2/16) and if they don't rely too much on the crappy Win port.

I wouldn't be so pesimistic about this. There is a chance they will port the game with console version as a base. In general windows version problems come from poor comsole-windows porting. I hope it will run great ;)

Ps. Are you THE linux gamer? ;)

Once again, I do not care for BLOBS. They are actually non-existent to me. When I tried them I had only problems, even on my nvidia-powered-notebook. I switched to nouveau/r600 in no time ;)

Yup, my freedom to choose who's customer I am, which driver I run (non-proprietary) and how everything in my house is powered, computer-wise :)

Quoting: BdMdesigNWhy they don't support the opensource driver ? openGL is the reason.

That is actually true, for some games, but not for all! CoH 2, for example, works like a charm with the open source drivers, yet they decided to not officially support it.

I guess it wouldn't have taken them much time to ensure basic support, given the fact that it ran out of the box on my side.

I'm very sure it would run on Catalyst as well.

But with that attitude they are firing the vicious circle that leads to less sells for AMD, although the games actually do work.

Yes, closed source ones that freaked out my systems every other day, because they couldn't keep up with the pace of a rolling release distro :D

I have something to look forward to in spring of next year. Hopefully Feral do a much better job than Iron Galaxy did with the Windows port.

Maybe this is a chance. If Feral is optimizing the game while porting, it may even run better on Linux than on Windows. That would be a great surprise, when the game is released.

Some time ago Feral stated on Twitter that their port will use Windows port codebase.
