Valve Is Trolling Us With A New Half-Life 3 Leak

By - | Views: 28,026
Valve look like they will become the ultimate trolls with a new leak. It looks like they included some files directly related to Half-Life 3 in a recent Dota 2 update.

Thanks to SteamDB as usual for noticing such things.

They found these files included in Dota 2:
hl3.txt
ai_basenpc.txt
rpg.txt

I'm not entirely sure how you could accidentally include them, so I'm sure it's to either get people hyped up in some way, or a big troll attempt.

The website Valve Time took a more in depth look at the files, you should check it out. They say this at the end which sums it up nicely:
QuoteSo, it’s important to realize that there’s absolutely no information as to exactly when or where these definitions come from. Meaning some or all definitions could be years old, used in some early iterations of projects that may or may not have died internally at Valve. Or, these are precisely what Valve is using, today, in some future title. Stay tuned as always...

I still haven't finished Half-Life 2, and only finished Half-Life 1 in the last few years, as personally I don't find them to actually be as amazing as others think. I am however interested to see what they can do with a new game in the series.

They have Source 2 working pretty well now, Steam Machines are on the way, and the know it will probably sell really well, so I wonder if it will become "the real thing".

What do you think about it? Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

They deserve our respect but exclusivity makes the money. Who would ever buy a Xbox if Halo wasn't Xbox only (*some were released years after for Win), me not. (Own Xbox 360 with Halo 4 but no other game)

Yeah, HL 3 is like a nasty bomb just waiting to explode. And Valve have that privilege to trigger it. If they use it effectively, it could make a serious earth quake in entire gaming market.

Just imagine, it would attract a lot of new people, speed up steam machines sales, more interest of big AAA game companies in platform, etc. Even a big Microsoft didn't have such exclusive with Halo.

And for us, it's a win-win situation, more people on Linux.

WTF, Half-Life 2 is one of the most sold PC titles ever and its metascore of 96/100 is just incredible.

Well, haven't even really started yet. In HL1 it seems there is a time limit, in which I have to do something to get the door open. As I couldn't figure it out. I dropped it. Tried it later again. Did the same stuff, just faster, and voila the door is open!
In HL2 I have a similar problem in the beginnig, where I have no clue what to do. Maybe another timing issue. Dropped it as well! And no. I'm not going to use any Cheatsheets or Walkthroughs.

Oh! Metascore says nothing about a game. For me it's irrelevant and doesn't influence my choice if I buy a game or not. Metascore is just Marketing-BlaBla like the payed Youtubers.

Respect? For Exclusives? No way! I'm not buying a hardware for just one game. Never ever! I bought a XBox 360 a few years after release as it had enough good games which I'm interessted in. I think it was bundled with Halo, not sure if it was Halo 4. Sold it after 5-10 Minutes Gameplay anyway. Shooters on a Console? Horrible nightmare!

For the current PC-Console-Generation you can release as many exclusives you want. Not going to buy it!

I didn't finish HL2 either, not even HL1. It never fixed me, basically I could say I didn't like the game at all.

QuoteYou can give up that hope. Valve doesn't do exclusives. They've stated specifically when asked about Steamboxes that they don't plan to ever have a Steambox exclusive, they want their games on all supported platforms.

They should wait just as long before releasing HL3 to Windows as the time it took them to port HL2 to Linux.
Fair should be fair. It would not be a Linux exclusive. They just have to wait like we Linux-users have been doing patiently all these years.
To be honest, I never have played any Half Life Game other than the weird Dreamcast Version of HL1. I grew up watching my brothers play games, and this is what I still do a lot of times. Just open up YouTube and watch a good Walkthrough of a good game. Some people look weird at me when I'm telling them that I don't want to play, I just want to watch a game being played. But I only do that with games that are supposed to have a good story, so I can enjoy it like a movie. And in the times of Twitch & Co getting bigger and bigger I think that is what it all will lead up to. If I'm not mistaken there were already companies shutting down twitch streams to prevent it from being shown to boost their sales.
But wow, I went way off track here :D

B2T: I never bought a console for one game. I only bought my PS4 this year so I can enjoy some good games that came out before I bought it. Oh wait, I did. It was the GameCube for Windwaker back in the day :)
Maybe my thoughts on that would be different if I had more money at my disposal.

Well, I loved Half Life but when it comes to, say the Star Wars & Godfather movies I haven't managed to watch them without falling asleep due to complete boredom. So I guess you are forgiven.

While I have long thought Valve would need to do something like this (HL3 releasing early on Linux), I'm sure they won't. Although if they do things right, I'd not find it a big problem. You can get early access to HL3 if you download and install SteamOS(/another version of Linux). It's not as if you'd be forced to spend money on the OS. And SteamOS should, at launch, be real easy to install and then dual-boot.

Maybe they could include it in steamboxes, pre-installed.

Honestly though, why are we even talking about this. It's just a few names of a few files.
