Serious Engine 1 Linux source code is coming

By - | Views: 18,098
Ryan "Icculus" Gordon, a long time Linux game porter is working on getting the Serious Engine 1 source code release working on Linux, with official blessing.

QuoteFollowing the recent release of source code for Serious Engine v.1.10, our good friend Ryan C. Gordon a.k.a. Icculus contacted us regarding his Linux work: “Just dropped Croteam an email to ask if my Linux work can be published too. I’ll report back.”

Back in 2002 he made ports for Serious Sam The First and The Second Encounter for Linux. Here’s what he said: http://www.tek.no/artikler/ryan_c_gordon_and_michael_simms/68450/2

We were thrilled with his idea, so we gave him a big thumbs up! Stay tuned!

Croteam really are awesome. Makes me a proud owner of The Talos Principle and Serious Sam 3 to repeatedly see how cool they are as people. Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

Hmh, will make it easier to port for us ... well, unnecessary :-). Dropping my weekend plan for getting input to work.

Very nice of Croteam, this is why I buy their linux games.
Does this actually mean we can play Serious Sam First & Second Encounter natively on Linux?
I own both for Windows on Steam, so assets are there, I just need a Linux executable ;)

I wish more studios would follow their example and release code for older games they are commercially done with, so that their fans can mod them or make them run on newer machines. There are a lot of games out there that deserve to live on and be preserved.

Seriously. Between this and Vulkan, they've been killing it with Linux lately.

They understand how to make awesome games. Actually adding in split screen multiplayer for a PC version is sadly uncommon, but they do it.

EXACTLY!

Obviously Croteam is awesome for the main source release... but they didn't port their game to Linux and they didn't release the Linux code. RCG (yep... you get awesome initials!) is the man!(OMG.. chill feminists.. he is actually a dude) in this situation!
