Mighty No. 9 looks like it's gearing up for a Linux release

A few hours ago Linux information was added to the SteamDB entry for Mighty No. 9, which indicates they are now pushing it into Steam.

We knew it was coming, but we weren't sure when due to the delay, but this is something at least:

Should go without saying by now that this isn't confirmation of anything and don't go buying it yet.

About the game
Mighty No. 9 is a Japanese 2D Side-scrolling Action game that takes the best elements from 8 and 16-bit classics that you know and love and transforms them with modern tech, fresh mechanics, and fan input into something fresh and amazing!

You play as Beck, the 9th in a line of powerful robots, and the only one not infected by a mysterious computer virus that has caused mechanized creatures the world over to go berserk. Run, jump, blast, and transform your way through twelve stages using weapons and abilities stolen from your enemies to take down your fellow Mighty Number robots and confront the final evil that threatens the planet!

It was funded with the help of Kickstarter.

Im waiting for it, but the reviews are pissing this game. People expected a Megaman clone, and seems it isnt, btu seems a good game

After a couple hours I would love to hear a update, sometimes public critique can be harsh.

I hope they didn't suffer from the 2D -> 3D timing problems that a lot of 3D platforms suffer from.

Timing on jumping in 2D games like Super Mario Bros used to be calculable so you could be precise and the movements of Mario were predictable, also world enemies, etc... operated on a similar clock related to the refresh rate and so on.

Hopefully the mechanics are sound.

So it has the SteamOS icon on the Steam store page, but the actual Linux version is not even available yet? Wow. They can't get anything right, can they?

I am not defending the game, I can't because i have not played it. It does support Linux but its not released yet. I don't understand how that works since games loose the steam OS icon for not being tested on steam OS, but they work on other Linux distributions.

I have played it for a bit. The levels are boring and too easy, save for a few really unfair/frustrating segments that involve instadeath. Boss fights suck because of the huge health bars and the need to do the dash move on them to stop them from regaining health - sometimes you just can't reach them. Speaking of the dash, it works well but I wouldn't have made it such a central gameplay element. You basically have to use it on all the enemies. Also, the voice acting is Sonic level bad. It's not the worst game ever by any stretch of the imagination, but it feels kinda pointless when things like Shovel Knight exist.
