After a number of years in development Starbound is finally about to get a full release and I can't wait to play it in full!

We actually ran a server for it a long while ago, so would you guys be interested if we ran a Linux gamer server again? If enough people are interested I will do it for sure as it will be nice to play it with others.

As for what the update will bring: lots. I expect the changelog to be huge and it's going to be very interesting to see the full story quest-line implemented.

It has been quite some time since I personally picked it up, as I've been forcing myself to hold off until the full release to get the full excitement out of it.

Hopefully their SteamOS will return with this update, which they told me they were working on.

You can find Starbound on GOG, Steam and Humble Store. Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

Yeah, I played the server back when it was up, sadly, someone kept killing the npcs at the colony, so you couldn't do any quests... But sure, I'd be up for it again.

I think it's likely we will do a server for it :)

I've been looking for something to scratch my minecraft itch since my jump to steamos (I know I can install it in desktop mode but trying to keep it as "standard" as possible let - newborn baby means less time to fix if it all goes wrong ????)
What are people's views on Starbound?
Have been desperate to try out subnautica but it's not looking likely to come our way :(

they finally released the storyline content in the unstable - testing build on steam. I didn't think they planned to release story content on the test build according to multiple posts they made the last couple of months. So I stopped playing after I reached the starting planet. If you have an older character you will still have all the things you've finished and unlocked... although You may miss out on some new interesting content. Unless there is a forced wipe of old data.
But if you have a character from the old game, I'd highly advise deleting and remaking if they don't do a forced wipe. Not just for storyline reasons, but it very well could cause some buggy issues.

their patch notes show that there will be a character and world wipe on release of 1.0.

they brought back the hunger mechanic with the "survival" (which was the old Normal mode) and "hardcore" difficulty settings. Casual does not have hunger enabled.
The whole game starts off completely different now, with a whole cutscene to boot. it's really kind of cheesy but in a cool and interesting way. You can build a crew for your ship now, that each crew member has added benefits. plus vehicles and Mechs are acquirable, the planet biomes have some new tweaks like the lava planet isn't mostly liquid lava now, it is mainly magma rock with a lot of lava pools, plus new creatures for this planet type. the amount of new content is staggering. and they plan to add more in the coming months.

I think a Linux server for this game would be great. although I'm not sure if i'd have a lot of time to play on it though. i'm a father of 2 boys that have special needs, i tend to have to go afk a lot, at odd and sudden times. plus there are certain mods I like to use, like the hair styles, colors and if starbound side stories is available by the time 1.0 is released I want to try and play with that enabled from the start, because SSS has a larger array of planet types and biomes.
