Looks like Mojang will be supporting the new Minecraft launcher on Linux

By - | Views: 15,706
Good news Minecraft [Official Site] fans! Mojang seem to have changed their minds on Linux support for the new Minecraft launcher they are working on.

Originally, I spoke to one of the Minecraft developers in July where they said they had no official plans for it.

The new launcher will not use Java, but Minecraft itself still will.

Now in a reddit post the same developer has said this:
QuoteWe currently have a build for Windows and OSX, but we'll try to have a Linux one ready for testing shortly.

And then the FAQ about platforms says:
QuoteLinux: None as of yet, but we're having our top man look into it.
The top man's name is Shoghi.

They also shared a shot of the new launcher:

This is good, as Minecraft is massively popular and it would be a shame to see us sidelined after supporting us for so long. Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

What is wrong with Java? ;P

Everything! Maven build systems are atrocious to use. Java uses so much freaking boiler-plate it's not funny. The god-forsaken org/junk/random/otherstuff/more forced directory layout is the biggest fucking pain in the arse possible..

Okay, that's all I've got. The language itself is okay-ish. And the garbage collector is wicked fast! I just really despise most of the build systems around, like npm, gradle, maven etc.
