New user statistics refresh, come check out the new data from Linux gamers

By - | Views: 33,167
Our user statistics page has been updated again, and it should now happen at the end of every month automatically.

Here we can see that Ubuntu, is clearly the most popular Linux distribution amongst our Linux gaming visitors, with Arch coming in second place again (out of 1645 users):

This time, as requested, I added in a gamepad selector along with the graph to go with it, which clearly shows right now the "Steam Controller" being the most popular. I imagine that will change with more people inputting their preference, as we only had 271 people answer it so far:

What I am most surprised about, is out of 924 users, KDE Plasma is the most popular desktop environment. I never seem to be able to personally get along with it, but it's cool to see how popular it is:

For those, and more visit the statistics page.

As always, if you have suggestions on how to make it all more interesting, fire away in the comments. I want to make the page useful, and it has grown quite a bit since the initial release of it.

What I would like feedback on, is how often to remind users to make sure their details are up to date, and what the preferred method would be? Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

I am the owner of GamingOnLinux. Can you add an option to "add your OS to the database" if you select not listed? I'm running Peppermint 7

I find the UI very unfriendly. Adding a "your PC details" under "Submit" could help.

BTW, what happens when you switch between last and this month's graphs back and forth is exactly what happens with Steam's own statistics. The number of Linux users grows but with it the percentage goes down and that's because the number of Windows users grows as well. It's hard to argue with that. Even though it slows down it still rises way quicker than the less evil side of the force. It's funny to see same tendencies everywhere like number of Ubuntu and Arch based systems growing faster than other distributions therefore, even though all numbers grew, most of the data bars got shorter.

Quoting: Mountain ManUsed an Xbox 360 gamepad for years (I have two of them, actually) but once I got a Steam Controller, I have pretty much abandoned them. [...]
Exact same story for me! My old Xbox 360 controller is gathering dust for 1 year and I almost gave up on KB+M as well. I play everything with my Steam controller, Civ, Stellaris, Tomb Raider, Saint Row 4, Good very Old Games as well as any FPS.

However sometimes I have to fall back to KB+M when I'm struggling too much in frenetic parts of certain FPS games, for example when I get overrun with enemies in Shadow Warrior.

Quoting: Comandante oardoWhen You gonna add a Game Tracking feature?
Why would we want that?

Because a lot of gamers like to show to everyone which games they are playing and which steam achievements they earned...

I thought it's about getting stats, not about showing off. We have link to your Steam profile, we can see you like Dead Island. I don't get the idea behind reproducing same information here.
