Steam hits over 14 million concurrent users online

Steam has officially hit a new high for concurrent users online, with over 14 million people being online today.

The amount was actually 14,207,039 which is an incredible number. It shows that PC gaming (well, Steam anyway) is alive and actually growing. It's not really all that surprising though, especially since Steam has just gone through a bunch of big sales so they would have likely pulled in a bunch of new users on the service.

It looks like Counter-Strike: Global Offensive and Dota 2 really helped with this, considering both had over 500K peak players online today. Dota 2 by itself hit nearly 1 million players online, which is staggering.

One thing to note is that this is people online and not people actually playing a game. Still, it's a damn impressive number.

What would be interesting to find out is how many active user accounts Steam has now, as last reported in November 2015 it had 125 million active accounts. Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

No that's what > I < said. whatever.

Just because the steam survey says it knows about Wine Project doesn't mean they are attaching that info to either Windows or Linux OS stat record, what is likely happening is that it goes under OTHEROS part of the record.

I believe using Wine should show as LinuxOS, regardless of what the game supports. (to gauge steam users using Linux, wine is not windows!)

The Steam survey has indeed a problem. Yesterday I found this article: http://linuxtechandgaming.com/an-open-letter-to-valve/
But I don't know whether they're interested in fixing this since they got a visit from Microsoft.

Plot twist:
Wine works on MAC oS x.

So a "wine windows" could be either Wine on Linux or Wine on Mac.

So it most certainly should be under "Other OS" as you cannot determine which of those the wine is running as.

Quoting: neffoSome devs have noted that their games have been activated on Linux in the past (despite not having a Linux build). Although this might purely be the purchase without install.

However, the Wine version is definitely sent to Steam:

It doesn't matter. Whoever used it just fed Valve with "Windows XP (64 bit)". Rest of the data is not in the public stats. Above said, it's better to skip the survey if you happen to run Steam with wine.
