At E3, a new trailer for Insurgency: Sandstorm [Official Site] was shown off and it looks really quite gorgeous. The developers told me Linux is still planned too.

And the confirmation I just got when asking about Linux:

That's the plan

Insurgency is a pretty great FPS and it sits proudly in the list of very few realism based shooters available for Linux. Insurgency: Sandstorm builds upon their ideas, but expands on it greatly.

It will have a full campaign mode which can be played solo or in co-op, here's what the developers said about the story:

QuoteIn Insurgency: Sandstorm’s Story Mode, players will travel as a party cut off from support across a war-torn landscape on a new mission that is deeply personal.

The trailer is narrated by one of the main characters in the game, a U.S. Army veteran turned volunteer soldier, who finds himself on an unexpected journey alongside a female fighter native to the region and a few other characters yet to be introduced. Their objectives have aligned, and their vision of the war blurred as it touches each of them in different but converging ways.

Damn, I'm terribly excited to give this one a go! Are you looking forward to it?

Insurgency is still like the only game I play habitually. Its gameplay feels so much like Socom II which I was addicted to in my teens.

I think they're using unreal engine 4 for sandstorm so I hope they don't run into problems. It feels like a lot of developers that try to make linux games on unreal engine 4 run into problem after problem and delay for linux because of it. Definitely going to purchase this and probably be hulled up in my room for hours on end.

A graphic overhaul for Insurgency is long overdue, so I'm really looking forward for it.

Story mode is always a difficult thing. Especially when the game / developers where focused on multiplayer-only before. But I surely would appreciate a good campaign (hope it's not too short). The developers statement seems to suggest some more 'spec ops: the line' like story, that would be fantastic. Especially in this genre it would be nice to have more games that make you think about what you're doing and why you're doing it.

Yey, that could be a shooter for me. Hope focus and New World can make it happen for Linux.

What engine is it by the way?

Yes, the pre-rendered cgi trailer with absolutely no gameplay did look great

It's supposed to be Unreal Engine

Story mode in coop, is a top feature for this kind of game. Really the kind of stuff modern fps lack. These guys from New World Interactive have always done top quality work for Linux/Mac and I'm really looking forward for this one.

Quoting: Sil_el_motin times of call of duty this story-graphics look like from 2007
i don't think you played call of duty in recent years, the graphics are pretty shitty in some places, they have an astonishing lack of detail, in cutscene areas sure it looks fine, but really, graphics in cod are meh, especiallywhen you see how huge the installation for COD is:
