Planetary Annihilation: TITANS [Steam], the game I wish was more popular to be updated and fixed up more often is, surprisingly, still alive.

The developers pushed out another patch last night, which adds in 16 new custom commander units free for everyone. That's not a typo, they really did add in that many.

They added in a new POV camera mode, where you can follow a particular unit and see the action from it's perspective.

They also did some AI improvements. AI can now share armies and you can resume anywhere for AI games with no human players. Both of those are pretty damn useful!

There's also a new win condition, Sudden death for teams (protect your weakest player). On top of that there's a few bug fixes, balance changes and a modding adjustment.

Find the changelog here.

I didn't even try it despite getting it for free as a KS backer. Well, maybe it's a good time to start. It has "mostly positive" reviews which is totally OK in my book as the original game has been bashed quite a lot, and rightly so. Top reviews are from the players with a lot of playtime, 100+ hours so it's also a good sign. This could be another undervalued game which a few players sink a lot of time in and others just don't get it.

I loved total annihilation and supreme commander, but this game does not have 'it'.
The spherical battlefield does add nothing but makes playing akward. Never couls get myself to play it for real.

I have played Planetary Annihilation for a long time and I love it. But support for Linux is very poor. You had to start it several times and hope that the GUI started without much distortions. I stopped playing it because it just gotten worse. Never did find out how that came. They did send me a voucher to buy this game with a discount. Never did buy it because I assume the engine will have the same GUI issues...

Yeah, GUI crashes was the main reason I stopped playing the original game. The second reason was bad pathfinding and stucking units. However, as I heard at least GUI has been fixed in TITANS so you could give it a try as well.

The spherical maps are a huge miss-conception of a cool idea.

This, and the aweful way they handled the community with PA and PA:T make me dislike and the game, and the company.

I played the game for a while and it ran perfectly for me. No issues whatsoever. I love the graphical style of the game but it tends to get a bit overwhelming. I'll probably play it again at some point.

In my opinion PA is the best RTS for Linux. Off course I'm still playing it.

I really like PA, dumped 75+ hours into it, have not tried Titans yet but I will eventually. I agree with coolbober, if I am looking for a classic RTS style game I am going for PA:T.

I loved PA Titans. Unfortunately it suffers due to poor support and bugs (which are even worse on Optimus enabled laptop).

I can't play on updated system, because --software-ui now gives me black menu and I can't do anything.
Without --software-ui, game is too dark on Intel HD and doesn't render properly on Nvidia. :(

It's still playable on Ubuntu 16.04.

Of course! This is my main go to game on any playform. Love it! <3 :D

I can often be found on the community discord and would be happy to try help those of you having issues get it working. I wish you guys would be vocal on the forums to make the devs aware of such issues.

I've not heard of this one before, what graphics are you using? Does toggling fullscreen help? Alt+Enter is the hotkey.

You shouldn't be using --software-ui with Nvidia, It's known not to work and shouldn't be required. Again does toggling fullscreen help with the black screen issue?
