Pillars of Eternity: Definitive Edition [Official Site] has been announced for release on November 15th, bringing all current content as well as a new DLC into one package.
It will contain the original game, The White March: Parts I & II DLC packs, all content originally in the Pillars of Eternity: Royal Edition plus a brand new Deadfire Pack DLC. The new DLC will have new in-game items to earn and discover, and new portraits from the forthcoming sequel, Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire. Worth noting that the new Deadfire Pack DLC will be free for existing owners, as a thank you for supporting the game.
I know some of you wait for these types of editions to come out, so you get everything together. Hopefully this will be interesting for some of you.
The Definitive Edition will be priced around $39.99, which sounds like a damn good deal for the amount of content on offer here.
On top of that, Pillars of Eternity: Hero Edition will get a reduced price when the Definitive Edition is released. With more sales due before the year is up, it might still be worth waiting anyway.
In my case I bought Pillars, then White March I, then White March II, and NOW there is Deadfire DLC (and the 'GOTY' Definitive version which has it all.)
If I'd like to have some game but I'm not that much into it, I usually wait for a sale, maybe also for a sale of the GOTY Edition etc.
g000h, I get your point. Usually I'd love to do the same if I REALLY want to have a certain game. Maybe you should look at my former comment, for this reasons also smaller studios should sell a "Season Pass" in advance.

I guess they often don't know what (and even if) additional content there will be before seeing at least the first week's sales...

Probably not, publisher being Paradox...
I bought Pillars of Eternity some time after release but soon they announced the expansions, so I waited with playing it until I bought the expansions. And then waited some more, just in case. Actually I've just started it last week, and now this...
I really hate the dlc-pumping model, it's the reason I never played more than a few hours of CK2 and EU4 and stopped buying DLCs for them (well, another reason being dlcs not going below -50/-66% any more), as well as stopped buying any new games by Paradox. I didn't even buy Tyranny even though it seems like my type of game, because I don't know how many dlcs it will spawn. I know they probably don't plan everything upfront, so they can't just say "this game will have 3 dlc, here's a season pass for you", but still as a player I resent it and refuse to take part. Maybe some day, in a few years, I'll buy and play "Tyranny Complete" or some such.
The new Deadfire Pack DLC will also be made available for free to all existing (and future) owners of Pillars of Eternity on Windows, Mac, and Linux PCs to thank them for their ongoing support of what has become one of the world’s most beloved RPGs.

So what :-)
I wonder if there will be a lower-priced upgrade for people who already own the original game?
This. I have the pre-order edition on GOG, but neither of the White March DLC.
I doubt, seeing as they've not had any upgrades between editions since release, but I can hope!
If it doesn't show up on release you may drop them a mail. I'll do it too in that case :)The new Deadfire Pack DLC will also be made available for free to all existing (and future) owners of Pillars of Eternity on Windows, Mac, and Linux PCs to thank them for their ongoing support of what has become one of the world’s most beloved RPGs.

@hummer010: So I've to quote myself now?

You can quote yourself if you like, but neither your original post, nor their website answers my question.
I have the basic pre-order edition, which is essentially the Hero edition. The Definitive edition is going to include all content from the Royal edition. Obsidian has never offered any way for people to upgrade already purchased editions.
I'll get the Deadfire DLC for free, and I can buy the White March DLCs, but I still won't have all of the content of the new Definitive edition.
And unless they offer some sort of upgrade path, the only way to get that content is to re-buy the whole game, which I'm not willing to do.
