The FPS game Day of Infamy [Steam] has a big 'Flak Tower' update out, which includes a new map and environment art. They also upgraded to a 64bit version of the Source Engine, but it seems the Linux version didn't get that. The release notes state it's for Windows and Mac, so I double checked and the Linux version is still 32bit.

Here's a trailer for the update:

The update comes with a new map, the "Flak Tower", which can be played across various game modes. It looks good and introduces a mechanic where you need to get through blast doors in order to proceed. Support players also now have the ability to drop ammo for themselves and team mates, making the role a lot more useful too. Dropped ammo can be picked up by the enemy team as well though, so be careful.

They also fixed a bunch of bugs. You can read the full patch notes here.

On top of the Linux version not getting the 64bit build of the Source Engine, the Linux version still has the bug where it doesn't show you as in-game, so the community features don't work at all. I did send a support ticket for that some time ago, with no word on a fix. I've sent a tweet today and opened a new post in their Steam forum to see what's happening for Linux gamers.

It's a good FPS and I do think it's worth checking out, but it's another developer who needs to spend a little more time making the Linux version a better experience.

Quoting: omer666Are you having black trees in-game? I just bought it and it's annoying me a great deal, I think it's going to be a refund.

Welcome to the supposed perfect NV drivers :P

As soon as AMD releases a Radeon GPU that offers the same power efficiency as my 1050 Ti, I am pretty sure I'll switch over to AMD + Freesync screen. But for now, Nvidia's hardware still has my preference.

I have found a workaround for my problems though: I needed to turn the paged memory to High. If it can help...

I take it the new AMD APU's due out have peaked your interest then? they seem to be at 1050 level perf from whats been floating about.

In fact I missed on this piece of news because I am not that interested in APUs, but I'be been reading a lot of rumours about AMD's next-gen GPUs.

It is said that they will get multiple cores with a more decent TDP. Also if I upgrade I'd want something at least more powerful than what I have now because investing in hardware is not something I can allow myself to do too often...

which drivers are you using if you are using 384.98 dont there are issues making performance worse with that series of drivers roll it back to an older driver should see performance gains they are working on fixes.

In fact I haven't had any performance problems so far with 387.34, it was what I suppose to be shader problems, for which I found a fix (see my comment a bit earlier), but thanks for the tip.

I believe his statement was about AMDGPU-PRO, not open source AMDGPU. Nevertheless, AMDGPU-PRO is far better than Catalyst drivers have ever been. I am really looking forward to switching to AMD, and I really hope they will release a gaming-grade GPU that's energy efficient. When this day comes, going AMD will be a no-brainer for Linux users.
