It's time to bug Feral Interactive about future port requests once again

By - | Views: 79,533

Feral Interactive, the absolute monster when it comes to big Linux game ports is asking what you want to see again.

You all know Feral by now, they've ported HITMAN, F1 2017, Mad Max, Dawn of War III, Life is Strange, XCOM, XCOM 2, DiRT Rally and many more seriously good games to Linux. On top of that, they still have an existing teaser up that they haven't yet announced, all we know is that it's coming to Linux.

On Twitter, they asked this recently:

It’s a New Year full of new possibilities! If you could only have one new game for macOS, Linux or mobile in 2018, which one would it be? And why? We can’t promise that your dreams will come true, but the best answers will star in our email newsletter.

Naturally, Feral lurk in our comments, so feel free to post here as well as I'm sure they will be taking note.

For me personally, I would like a new open-world game that I can travel around and sink plenty of hours into. Something to allow time to fade away and forget about all lifes problems.

So—what do you want Feral to bring to Linux next?

What are the choices?

Quoting: TheSHEEEPWhat are the choices?

Anything your imagination can come up with.

Be prepared though that e. g. Bethesda games are less likely than say 2K games.

The Witcher 3

First person open world is the genre I'm missing the most, and as Bethesda doesn't seem to embrace the penguin and CD Project considered a Linux version, let's get the great Witcher.

I was hoping that they'd also make a Reddit post as I don't have a Twitter account. If someone feels like suggesting Dark Souls or Skyrim I'd appreciate it.

Mandatory "The Witcher 3" but knowing that that would be quite unlikely I will go with Men of War: Assault Squad 2.
The devs planned OpenGL support. Not sure whether they implemented that or not but if they did it should make porting quite a bit easier.

Don't forget to answer why, not just your choice picks ;)

I understand their intent to make us choose the "most wanted one" and not spam them with long lists but still "If you could only have one new game for macOS, Linux or mobile in 2018" sounds a bit worrying.

My choice would be Rise of the Tomb Raider. As to why, well, the first game was awesome and I want to know the conclusion/continuation. The game has great graphics, interesting characters, story and gameplay. I quite like the "interactive movie" genre (in the case of TR it also adds action/RPG/puzzle mechanics) but don't want to buy a console that has plenty of such games. Linux is all I want and need.

Though I want LiS:BTS to be ported as well, it's on Unity and I suspect it would be easier/cheaper for the devs themselves port it. I also wonder if Feral always use their IndirectX framework for ports or they approach each game differently. For example, LiS is built on UE3 that already had a native Mac/Linux port so it's interesting to know if they reused it or wired the D3D version of the engine to their framework.

For me it would be
- Rise of the Tomb Raider - for I never played it I guess it would be a good game to spent hours in it.
- Falcon 4 BMS because I dont like wine, and the FPS loss is immense for this game. And it is still the best flight sim for war business
- Gianas twisted dreams *wink wink* because I spent hours on it when I had a windows partition left. And because I would like to spend some hours more. Its a brilliant game!

...but I am aware that just the first is realistic in this universe... even though BMS team should really look for Ryan "I." Gordon.

It's mainly a bit of fun and a good way for them to measure interest in various games, don't go reading into it.

I just really want a high quality standard MMO on our platform :( We do have Albion and a few others, but none of them fill the gaps left from games like SWTOR, WoW, Rift and FFXIV.

I realize that porting an MMO would be a large undertaking, but I'm allowed to dream, yeah? :D
