Like your farming sims, want something a little darker? Gleaner Heights [Steam, Official Site] might be what you're after then.

The developer, Emilios Manolidis, released the game on Steam in February with a Linux version being added a few days ago. The release that adds Linux support also expanded the dialogue options, expanded the in-game help and fixed some bugs.

It has the features you might expect like growing crops, raising animals, crafting and cooking, day/night cycle, seasons and so on. However, it's on the darker side as not everything is as happy as it seems on the surface.

Honestly, it looks like a really sweet game. Quite a bit like Stardew of course, although Stardew does take heavy inspiration from other games before it so it's not really copying it—just to be clear on that. I'm simply making the comparison since others will as Stardew made it popular again.

Find Gleaner Heights on Steam.

Oh, I love such happy-go-lucky games going dark! It adds contrast and depth to the genre. I haven't finished SDV though, might do that first but will keep an eye on this one.

The art style looks very much like the early Harvest Moon (Bokujo Monogatari) games. Definitely going to pick this one up!

Hmm , steam lists it as Mostly Positive.
Any chance the dev would send in a key ?
Seems getting to the promised "dark" content is a bit of a slog.
Curios to see a playthrough before i consider a purchase.

Interesting. I'm not sure I'd want to grind for hours just to see some darkness. I could just go play Streets of Rogue and get it instantly...or even just play real life. :'( Somebody hold me.
