When asking the developer about Linux support, they said this to us:

Working on it. Want to make absolutely sure it's working before announcing pre-launch. But support will come!

Here's what they say it will feature:

  • Be the detective you want to be. But prepare to face the consequences.
Investigate crime scenes, interrogate suspects, get information by any means necessary. Follow the law or make your own rules, but how you choose to act will affect people's attitudes towards you.
  • Five cases to solve, with multiple suspects, false leads, and different outcomes.
Never find yourself stuck in a dead-end situation. If the case becomes unsolvable, simply move on to the next one. The story will adapt based on your choices.
  • Single click interface with no inventory.
Gather clues and documents in your casebook for review. Item manipulation is handled via a context-sensitive cursor.
  • A fictional city with four boroughs to explore, each with their own unique flavor.
Players will visit each of these boroughs throughout the game, exploring themes such as class divide and the public's fear of emerging steam tech.
  • Inspired by the works of Edgar Allan Poe and Charles Dickens.
  • Meet over 50 professionally voiced characters.
  • Original score by Mark Benis

You can wishlist and follow it on Steam. The full release is scheduled for September 13th, hopefully Linux support will land then.

Cool! We can put Application Systems Heidelberg (Nelly Cootalot, Unforeseen Incidents) on our list of Linux-friendly publishers, I guess. Wishlisted.

Very nice! This reminds me of several old favorites: "Sherlock Holmes & The Case of the Serrated scalpel/ The Case of the Rose Tattoo" as well as a bit of "Gabriel Knight: Sins of the Father".

This goes straight on the wishlist. Will buy asap (as long as the release doesn´t collide with one or several other "top-of-the-wishlist" titles)

Very good news.

A few weeks ago, during a development stream for this game, I asked about Linux support. The answer back then was, that he has no idea on how to do it, but he is open for the idea. I told him about AGS can be compiled on Linux too. He said, he'll talk about that with his coding people and the publisher. :)

Well done! So we're getting this one soon enough, largely thanks to your "activism"

Oh man, I miss those Sherlock Holmes games. I wonder if GOG will ever put them in their store... Speaking of GOG, will this game be released there too?

Watching the trailer it also reminded me of the games you mention. Being released in September, I have the feeling this game might be the perfect companion for a Sunday morning, watching the rain and colder days creeping in with a cup of coffee :D

It seems quite likely. I wrote on Twitter that I hope to see the game on GOG. The answer was: "Just between you and me, you won't have to hope too hard ;)" (see this tweet

Dunno about this

Golden Wake seemed boring as hell to me because of the theme
Shardlight seemed mediocre at best - something just didn't gel well in that game

This is a good thing ? Sounds like they are trying to re-invent the wheel

Oh well , will wait and see.

I helped beta test Nelly Cootalot before the Linux release, and the developers I was in touch with were both very friendly and eager to make the game work smoothly on Linux. If I remember correctly, this was around the time that Unity had a bug that would sometimes make it crash while trying to determine the supported version of OpenGL.
