This is a bit of a highlight and something I hope we see more of in future. You can now be matched up with people across Steam and all major consoles in Rocket League.

With special thanks to all of our friends and colleagues at PlayStation, we are thrilled to announce that starting RIGHT NOW, Rocket League has entered the PlayStation Cross-Play Beta program! Players on PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and Steam can now randomly matchmake with or against each other in all Online match types (i.e. Casual, Competitive, and Extra Modes).

This makes Rocket League possibly the only game that works online across Steam (Linux, Mac, Windows), Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4. For us Linux users, it's especially different to actually be included.

In the announcement post, Psyonix noted that cross-platform parties will be coming to Rocket League in the first major update due this year. That's another point that's going to be impressive, to actually have a party of players across all these different systems.

It's such a fantastic game, one I've now managed to put 255 hours into and I honestly don't see myself stopping any time soon. The fact that it's supported officially on Linux too is awesome!

Rocket League is on sale right now on Humble Store, otherwise head to Steam.

Wow, this is very good! I'm playing since few months and I hope now to not repeat so frequently my teammates.

Just a noob question, I tried to trade and I haven't succeeded. I tried to make a friend using steam, and then create a party in the game, but I cannot invite him. It's because he is not online? Or it's a Linux version bug.
Do you have any advice on this? Thanks

Must be some edge case or bug, I've traded many times. Pretty sure I've invited people into the party before at least once.

Why is it still not on GOG yet? Looks like they released it on every console already, so apparently it doesn't need Steamworks for multiplayer.

It's kind of sad that this is something so rarely done that it warrants such fanfare. Players of a given platform should never be isolated into their own little ghettos in the first place.

By far is one of the games that has the best fun/price relation.

I assume my Steam account, my Nintendo account and my PlayStation account remain separate entities?

I never really “got” Rocket League, and I'm not a huge fan of online multiplayer anyway, but this is very cool. Although, as GustyGhost says, it shouldn't be such a big deal. If Amiga and ST owners could play Lotus Challenge against each other across a serial link 25 years ago, then surely it shouldn't be a problem for today's always-online machines?

To be fair, I recall Microsoft, back in the original XBox days, saying they didn't want to put controller users at a disadvantage against KB/mouse users. But a) can't we decide that for ourselves? And b) so many PC gamers are using controllers these days that it's kind of a moot point. It can't be beyond the wit of man to use the control method itself as a matchmaking parameter rather than the system it's connected to, if it's a problem.

And why wouldn't they wish to have more users?

May be due to the sheer volume that by comparison it's already available too!

That an the fact they may not wish too.
