The 'Linux Steam Integration' project has a fresh minor release out

Back to work at Intel, developer Ikey Doherty has put out a fresh release of the Linux Steam Integration project.

For those unaware, the LSI project is basically a helper to make Steam and games run through Steam work better on Linux. It helps to work around game-specific annoyances, game engine issues and plenty more.

Earlier today, release v0.7.3 was put out as a smaller maintenance release to deal with some "long standing annoyances in LSI". Here's what made it in:

  • Fix SDL bug with Don't Starve. Input works again.
  • Drop reliance on linux32 command. Use setarch linux32 due to availability.
  • Various snapd fixes
  • soname support for LibreSSL shim mode with some Feral titles
  • Sync libnica
  • Cleanup and organise tree a little bit
  • Fix buggy LD_PRELOAD for disabled runtime (invalid escaping)

As for what's to come in future, Doherty noted that starting Monday 21st January they will be doing more work on it. Their plans include adding Proton support, a refactor aimed at getting "a boatload of games working" and much more.

See the release announcement here.

Does it work on SteamOS? I wonder if it would help with Move or Die, which has been broken for a year or so, while working fine on arch.

I think it's ClearLinux specific at the moment and maybe Solus.

I doubt that there are many gamers running Clear Linux.

I continue to be more than slightly confused as to why this project is of concern to any of us not on Solus or Clear Linux... Can someone explain this to me?

Would be real nice of someone would patch the issue where Steam-shortcuts does not appear on the desktop. It's a real hassle for us who do use desktop-shortcuts.

Quoting: GuestThere is no notable performance boost, it just provides fixes to common issues that would prevent a game from loading so that the user doesn't have to faff with those manually. I think I read somewhere that it also fixes things like the way water looks in Ark but I can't speak to that as I don't play the game
Ok, bizarre. I've never had trouble loading anything on any distro I've played. Seems like a lot of effort for little return...

Quoteso how can I use this on Debian or Ubuntu?
For the time being, you have to build it yourself or wait for the snap release.
