ChaosForge have managed to craft something quite special here with Jupiter Hell. Saying it's a turn-based roguelike DOOM would be a reasonably fitting description, but you need to play it to appreciate it.

The release date of August 1st for Early Access was announced previously and they're sticking to it, with a new trailer going up today. Feast your eyes on this, just make sure to turn the volume up a notch:

A new update is also live for those who already have access, which has added in player progression and some more levels to the "Io" section of the game.

The Linux version is already running very nicely! I've been impressed with how quickly Jupiter Hell has been expanding. From new levels and weapons, to Vulkan API support to make it perform even smoother. I will absolutely have some deeper thoughts on this one after release but I can easily recommend it already if you like action games and roguelikes as it fuses them nicely.

As for a full release timeline, they're planning to leave Early Access before the end of 2020. You can wishlist/follow it on Steam now.

I really don't like this CRT shaped UI :/ But the rest looks awesome! I'm a huge fan of rogue-likes, so I have to try this game :D

It can be completely turned off, just made this quick video to show you: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PcGEDMwH98E

It has come up on discord (several) times – either you love the CRT effect or you hate it. I belong to the second category. Only one person claims to be indifferent about it. ;-)

Is this game coming to DRM-free stores like GOG?

I'm tempted to pick this up.

I like the genre but I don't care for the time only moves when you move gimmick.

@KohlyKohl What genre are you talking about? I ask because all the roguelikes I have played have the "time only moves when you do gimmick".

I wasn't even thinking about the roguelike aspect but rather as a top down shooter.

This definitely does not qualify as a shooter, top down or otherwise. It has grid based movement even.
