OBS Studio, the free and open source video livestreaming and recording software is my one and only stop for video capturing and it continues to mature.

The upcoming 24.0 release has a first release candidate now available and it has some fun new features. For starters, you can now actually pause recordings to easily cut away parts you know you don't need. I've tested that and it works perfectly. It does need you to have separated encoders for streaming and recording though, so you can't have the recording encoder set to "same as stream".

You can see the handy pause button added above.

You can also enable a prompt to confirm when you hit Stop Recording, which can help prevent accidentally stopping your videos, something that happens to me more than I will care to admit so I will personally find that handy.

It also comes with numerous other improvements and bug fixes too of course. There's also plenty of optimizations for performance, along with some needed adjustments to the Window Capture ability on Linux. They've also switched the default recording format to mkv instead of flv.

See it all here on GitHub.

Awesome! The pause function will be very useful when my cats decide to destroy the place (or get stuck on top of doors) mid-recording. I can probably remove avidemux from my system now, as I only ever used it to remove such pauses from my recordings.

OBS hasn't been picking up the color white lately. It's been showing it as black. Seems like a regression maybe. I wonder if that will be fixed. I'm running version 23.

Is this window capture? Try ticking both swap red and blue + use alpha-less texture format. Even on NVIDIA, this is needed otherwise some games just aren't captured correctly on Linux.

It's not that; I've tried. :( I've only needed to do that when I see greens that shouldn't be there. In this case, it's black.
