Developer Philip Rebohle today announced the release of DXVK 1.5.5, bringing with it plenty of bug fixes for this impressive Direct3D to Vulkan translation layer.

On the games side, quite a number had specific issues addressed with this release. You should find less issues running: Book of Demons, Close Combat, Cross Racing Championship, Dungeons and Dragons: Temple of Elemental Evil, Elite Dangerous, Evil Genius, F1 2019, Hyperdimension Neptunia U Action Unleashed, Just Cause 1, Lumino City, Saint's Row III / IV, Shade Wrath of Angels, Sins of a Solar Empire, Rocket League and Vampire: The Masquerade Bloodlines which should see improved performance.

Another tweak was done for Skyrim, this time fixing both crashes and incorrect rendering with the "d3d9.evictManagedOnUnlock" option, they say this is "useful for Skyrim with a large number of mods as an alternative to ENBoost".

There's also more D3D9 features implemented, Intel hardware sees better D3D9 compatibility and more bug fixes included.

You can find the release notes here. You can make using Wine+DXVK easier by trying out Lutris, like our livestreamer who enjoys a lot of Overwatch on Linux thanks to it.

If you wish to upgrade your existing Proton install without waiting for Valve/CodeWeavers to update, it's quite a simple process of overwriting the existing DXVK files with the release download of DXVK 1.5.5. You can find your Proton install somewhere like this:

path-to-your/SteamLibrary/steamapps/common/Proton x.x/dist

Where x.x is whatever Proton version installed you wish to give a new DXVK.

Inside there you will see "lib" and "lib64", for 32bit and 64bit. Inside each of those, there's a "wine" folder and inside there is a "dxvk" folder and that's where you replace the files with new versions. Do so at your own risk but it's usually harmless. If you mess anything up, to refresh it you can usually just re-install Proton from the Tools menu in Steam.

or you could simply use protontricks first search for the game by the name for example like this

protontricks -s Project
[INFO] Found Steam directory at /home/joaco1/.steam/steam. You can also define Steam directory manually using $STEAM_DIR
[INFO] WINETRICKS environment variable is not available. Falling back to /usr/bin/winetricks
[INFO] Found 5 Steam library folders
Found the following games:
Project CARS (234630)

take note of the steamapp ID number and simply input this command
protontrics 234630 dxvk

If you don't have protontricks installed, download protontricks like this

wget https://raw.githubusercontent.com/Sirmentio/protontricks/master/protontricks
and

chmod +x protontricks

install -m755 protontricks /usr/local/bin

Quoting: The_Aquabator you could simply use protontricks first search for the game by the name for example like this
Why would you do that though? Not only do you have to do it for every single game you want to use it on, it also changes the wine prefix which means that you're pretty much guaranteed to forget about it and will be using that one DXVK version forever.

Please don't, this just leads to unnecessary problems that are very hard to diagnose.

Sorry in advance for being a noob with all this stuff, but does this means that Blazblue will be playable on Proton, when the DXVK update will be included in the official Proton release ? That sounds great, because currently it is "unplayable" on protonDB.

(I am not confident enough yet with Linux to try the manual DXVK installation :S: )

Well, mrdeathjr had a Blazblue screenshot in that comment, so it looks like something has changed that allows it to run!

As for not being confident enough - as Liam notes, just download Lutris! Install Blazblue using the SteamWine option and in the runner options, you should have dxvk 1.5.5 as the "latest" option by default. I've never downloaded dxvk in my life - I either use Lutris, Proton, or ProtonGE (Glorious Eggroll). So much easier.

I think you might still need to enable d9vk though? So in the Steam launch parameters, you add PROTON_USE_D9VK=1 %command%

I can't remember if that's still needed though. Glorious Eggroll's version of Proton enabled it by default some months ago, so it's a bit confusing to be honest.

With Proton 5.0 you don't need that anymore, see https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/wiki/Changelog#50-1

In my case dont use proton because dont support wmv related files correctly

I use wine 32bit only (compiled by myself) for most dx9 32bit games, in this prefix have installed various wmf redistributables and wmp10

I'll have another try with Lutris, but each time I tried to install something with it, I ended up using PlayOnLinux instead. Much easier, and the few games I tried worked perfectly on the first try. With Lutris, I could only end up with the setup.exe being launched again each time I wanted to launch the game...

In any case, thanks all for your advices, I will try tweaking things around

I'm not sure whether it is due to the latest wine version (5.3) or the new dxvk, but both, Dishonored 2 and Wolfenstein The new Order (both from gog.com), run beautifully now.
I had some major stuttering in Dishonored 2 before.
