The Bolognese Gore Mod is another creation by Brutal Doom’s developer, and it’s advertised as a gore enhancement mod for the GZDoom and Zandronum engines. However, apart from making the combat more violent, it also states that "makes enemies smarter and harder, makes gun louder and beefier, and adds epic new boss battles."

Here I made a list taking the most prominent features mentioned on the mod’s download page:

- A mod-friendly universal gore mod for Doom, Doom 2, Final Doom, Heretic, Hexen, Strife, Hacx, FreeDoom, and anything else you can run on Zandronum/GZDoom.

- It's up to date with Brutal Doom v21's gore effects, code has been entirely remade and is now easier to read, it performs better, has new features (…) without touching the monster's original code, allowing it to work with custom monsters.

- Code is also sensitive to the monster's size, which spawns more gibs if you are killing bigger enemies.

- With a cleaner code, now it's easier to incorporate the system into your mod.

- It should theoretically run with anything, as long as it doesn't features sprites with the same name.

- So far I have tested it with Smooth Doom, Project MSX, Ashes 2063, Blade of Agony, Stronghold, Quake2Stuff, FreeDoom, DemonSteele, and DukeNukemThreeDee. Everything worked flawlessly so far.

- Is compatible with Zandronum 3.0, or any version of GZDoom newer than 1.8.

- Now everyone can stop harassing mod creators to make their mods compatible with Brutal Doom, because with this, you can now turn anything into Brutal Whatever. You can even remove the CVARs and load it with Brutal Doom to get Brutal Brutal Doom.

Apart from all this, the mod has what is, in my opinion, one of the most unforgettable trailers I’ve seen in some time. Not only it’s highly descriptive, comprehensive and captures your attention from the very first second… it has some kind of magic that I can’t pinpoint. It might be the music, or the light-hearted tone (in contrast to what it's depicting), or simply the care and attention to detail that has been put into it; whatever it is, just as a reference: a minute ago - before watching it again to start preparing this article - I was angry with all this Coronavirus situation, and now I’m just writing these lines with a huge smile because of it.

Although the mod is naturally free, the developer put as a pinned comment the following message on the YouTube URL:

Did you know that Youtube considers the content of my channel too violent to allow it's partners to run ads? Did you know that according to Youtube, depictions of deaths of 20x60 pixels sprites based on clay models is too realistic, disturbing, and worse than GTA? So if you want to support my channel, consider donating to my Patreon. I put hundreds of hours of work on my projects, I have bills to pay, and all the help is appreciated. https://www.patreon.com/sgtmarkiv

Also, the more recent news about this mod is a tweet by the developer on March 21, where he claimed that a new version was going to be released in a few days, but as of the moment of writing this article there were no further announcements, so in the meantime download the Bolognese Gore Mod from ModDB and stay tuned for the upcoming update.

It didn't do much initially, but then I set Bolognese to it's "Always Gib" option and cranked the blood up and... uh, wow.

Is there any game like this with multiplayer support?

Zandronum has multiplayer support, and I wouldn't be surprised if GZDoom did as well.

I like the idea of this mod. Always lovely to be able to mix mods together.
