It seems the questions about WINE and Proton™ usage have been removed…

It seems the questions about WINE and Proton™ usage have been removed…I think it was discussed a bit in the last round, and the consensus was that those questions are no longer applicable in the current market situation.

Yup, was discussed before. The questions were useless due to the way this survey gathers data. We may do differently styled questions on it in future. It seems the questions about WINE and Proton™ usage have been removed…I think it was discussed a bit in the last round, and the consensus was that those questions are no longer applicable in the current market situation.

My GPU card died and I'm stuck with a old A8 7600 APU. It really makes you appreciate well optimized games

Aww, where's the Wii-Mote in gamepad selection? Gotta include the amount of Just Dance I play! /s

@Liam: I don't know when the VR and session type questions were introduced but I just noticed them now. You might want to highlight that to people, for better stats. :)

Wow, that only reinforces the idea of highlighting the newly added questions, so people can provide input if they want to. Thanks for the Trends tip! :)

Can you please add screen refresh rate and usage of adaptive sync? Those would be interesting to track, especially when compared with X11 / Wayland sessions data.

Some notable trends:
* KDE got ahead of Gnome, so finally that balanced out Unity merging into Gnome, which made Gnome ahead in the past.
* AMD GPU usage is nearing 39% and growing and CPU is also growing now at almost 46%. Impressive.
* Most popular GPU model - Radeon RX 580. RX 5700 XT is fourth, but on the quick rise.

One suggestion would be untangling the GPU models mess, adding filters for card families or market segments.
Yeah, something like low end, mid range, high end filters could be useful.

I own a VR device but its not on the list. The Quest, technically it can be connected to PC via Linux if someone builds an app to do it. ALVR could be compiled against dotnet5 under Linux for example.. No idea how one would go about it.
Believe it or not, the Quest headset is the only viable option for many places outside the US such as Australia where Index and other headsets are not sold in store and require imports which can easily exceed a $2000 price tag!!!
The Quest headset cost me $649AUD and the updated model (white) is said to be even cheaper then that. DAMN shame nobody has managed to get them linked up to Linux PC yet. (works amazing under Windows and Virtual Desktop app, or Link cable)
My 1080TI was high end at one stage, now its mid range. So you'd be updating that list a fair bit.

My suggestions:
Do you use Wine for gaming? (Yes/No)
Do you use Proton for gaming? (Yes/No)
Do you use VM for gaming (DOSBox and other emulators don't count)? (Windows/Other/No)

Yes, this whole last X months question was rather strange. A simple "do you use" is a lot more to the point.

The article should note if you have questions you have not answered and tells you how many.I know, that's how I noticed I had 2 missing answers, but it's barely visible if you don't pay much attention to everything in the article. And it's quite easy to miss it, considering it's basically the same article each month and you don't have changes in your configuration you're rather tempted to "click here to continue to be included" and move on.
So placing that notification in a div with a visible background color would help. :)

A fair point if I wish to bring attention to it, okay. I've adjusted it to place it into an info box with the "here's what we have for you" bit below that. This should clearly make it stand out now.The article should note if you have questions you have not answered and tells you how many.I know, that's how I noticed I had 2 missing answers, but it's barely visible if you don't pay much attention to everything in the article. Perhaps you may wish to collect keyboard layout to see QWERTY vs Dvorak usage amongst Linux gaming enthusiasts?

Gentoo and Arch-based are barely visible hereYou can refresh the page to change the colors. Still weird that some colors haven't been blacklisted (denylisted?) in certain themes.
