With the upcoming Steam Deck from Valve only (currently) coming in one colour, it's fun to imagine what it would look like if you could customize the casing colours - so let's try it out.

One of our readers Grady Vuckovic mentioned in our Discord Channel a little tool they made, which allows you to customize a few parts of a Steam Deck image and it actually works quite well. It's been fun to play around with possible colouring and I can't help but now actually want some official variants. Hopefully once the Steam Deck is out, perhaps we might see some fun skins to stick over it. It's a portable after-all, we want to show it off right?

Perhaps you want it to be bright and get some heads turning?

Or maybe a little like another handheld console we all know.

PC Gamer is one of a few who got to visit Valve recently, and it seems colour discussions are going on so maybe we will eventually see some. The main reason for it being in one colour right now is more of a "logistics thing" Valve said, as "Having a lot of SKUs in the market is just a lot more complicated".

Give it a go and show off in the comments your ideal colours for the Steam Deck.

Quoting: liberodarkThat a great Steam Deck for me :D

Let me disassembly the face plate & grab my spray paint and get back to you, jk. They had controller wraps -- giving people these kinds of options could boost sales quite a bit -- people love useless options that make them feel a sense of empowerment and like the device is now "their own" made entirely for them personally.

I could very much see people doing their own vent fan mods.

Also, I would like to see some "I use arch btw" written somewhere on the device or laser engraved.

Quoting: dubigrasu[...]I would've love to hear an opinion from someone heavily accustomed with the pads on the Steam Controller, are the new pads big enough?
The SteamDeck pads are supposed to be the same width/height as the circular ones on the Steam Controller (in other words, the circle can fit inside the square) and those were pretty much the perfect size. If they were bigger, you'd need too much finger movement. Think of them like thumb trackballs - at some point the ball just gets too big to be comfortable to move around with one finger.

I just did pretty much the exact same scheme, but with a slightly more purple hue (#1F0041) and black trackpads.
It is one sexy skin :D

Well, in a sense that's what I'd like, less crammed. Even on my SC sometimes I feel the need to some extra space for finer movements, or less interruptions when you pan left-right the image. The range of the movement would be still dictated by the settings, you would just have some extra left-right-space to use or not.
As trackballs they are good already.

Ah, that's nice. My eyes were tempted to see the new pads as a bit smaller. That's good news for me.

Here's mine, Glaz version. I wanted to add some black and white, but it was not convincing, so I just used a darker variant for the grips, pads and joysticks.
