Intel announces new CPUs, more detail on Arc "Alchemist" graphics

By - | Views: 14,993

Today at their own CES 2022 event, Intel had some interesting announcements for PC fans with some new processors coming.

The first announcement was the new H-Series mobile processors, with the new top-end flagship being the Intel Core i9-12900HK. They also showed off the new P-Series for thin and light laptops. Check them out (click pics to enlarge):

On top of that there's also the new U-Series for ultra low powered CPUs. Here's the lists (click pics to enlarge):

As for Intel Arc discrete GPUs, Intel has confirmed they're shipping 50 new mobile and desktop customer designs together with Acer, ASUS, Clevo, Dell, Gigabyte, Haier, HP, Lenovo, Samsung, MSI and NEC. Arc will support hardware-accelerated Ray Tracing, Xe Super Sampling (XeSS) AI-driven upscaling technology and Intel Deep Link technology. However, they did not specify clearly if these Arc models are only in laptops, and they only mentioned laptops directly.

XeSS is already being implemented into games, with Death Stranding Director's Cut edition (Windows PC) being a confirmed title to have it. Intel also announced studios including Studios 505 Games, Codemasters, EXOR Studios, Fishlabs, Hashbane, IOI, Illfonic, Kojima Productions, Massive Work Studio, PUBG Studios, Techland, Ubisoft and Wonder People working on adding in XeSS.

Intel Arc starts shipping in Q1 this year.

For desktop CPUs, Intel also announced another 22 new processors joining the 12th Gen Intel Core desktop processor family consisting of 65-watt and 35-watt versions. They also showed off newly designed Intel Laminar Coolers that accompany the new 65-watt processors that come in three variants from the top end to the bottom: Laminar RH1, Laminar RM1 and the Laminar RS1. The RH1 has controllable aRGB lighting too.

Additionally there's the new Intel H670, H610 and B660 chipsets that Intel say "deliver many of the great Z-series platform capabilities, like PCIe 4.0 lanes, integrated Intel Wi-Fi 6E (Gig+) and Intel Volume Management Device (VMD) – as well as support for memory overclocking".

Here's the lists of the new desktop processors:

Raptor Lake generation due later in 2022.

The biggest benefit is increased percentage of gaming GPUs with open drivers.

The i5 12400 is cheap compared to the amd 5600x and they are really close performance wise, but looking a bit further, the motherboard prices are higher, so seems a total package will be around the same price. But since amd did not really have competition in this segment there was no need for them to drop prices till now.

Nice.. but have they finally fixed all those cpu security issues yet? or will they require the cpu mitigations? Last I heard Intel hadn't fixed them even in newer cpus?

Read till the end, they've also announced low-end chipsets. Although you should avoid the H610, since that only has one memory channel.

Ty, I did, but I still think in the end it will be around the same cost/performance

Well, a leaked price list from Asus shows them going down to $120, so I don't see how?

as I said, amd did not have to drop prices till now, as there was no competition in this segment, so they will and we going to end up pretty similar. But time will tell.
