Valve has released the latest update to Proton Experimental, the special version of Proton you can use that has the latest updates bringing more game compatibility to Linux and Steam Deck.

In the release that went up July 28th, these two games are newly supported:

  • Unravel Two
  • Zuma's Revenge!

Additionally, these fixes came in with it too:

  • Fix OUTRIDERS hanging on a black screen after launch on the Steam Deck
  • Fix Sid Meier's Civilization IV crashing on world creation
  • Improve performance of HROT

I checked HROT on Steam Deck personally but sadly it's still not there but on desktop Linux it should be better.

The changelog can be seen here at any time.

Many more Steam Deck Guides available on our dedicated YouTube Playlist.

Text guide (Steam Deck):

  • Pick a game and head to the little COG icon on the right.
  • Click Properties, then Compatibility on the left.
  • Make sure the tickbox is done, then select it from the dropdown.

On a Linux desktop:

  • Right click a game, go to Properties.
  • Compatibility on the left.
  • Make sure the tickbox is done, then select it from the dropdown.

I already showed off a video of OUTRIDERS working again with Proton Experimental in an article but here's the video if you missed it:

And for anyone wondering what HROT stands for... it doesn't. Literally the name of the game! Mystery solved.

Quoting: scaineAnd for anyone wondering what HROT stands for... it doesn't. Literally the name of the game! Mystery solved.

And although it's styled uppercase, it's apparently a Czech word : https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/hrot

Since the developper is Czech and the game takes place in Czechoslovakia, it makes sense !
