Proton Experimental has a now update available as of December 1st, so here's a run over what's new in the latest build for Linux desktop and Steam Deck. This is the special testing version of Proton from Valve, that you can manually swap over to that includes the latest changes before they roll out to the main version of Proton.

Now playable is 雀姬 (Mahjong ladies) along with these fixes:

  • Fix Zeepkist freezing when using controller.
  • Fix Microsoft Flight Simulator crashing during longer flights.
  • Fix Vampire Survivors crashing on SteamOS 3.4.
  • Enable hidraw for simucube racing wheels and Fanatec pedals.
  • Fix Sackboy: A Big Adventure failing to start the first time it's launched.
  • Fix Marvel Snap not being able to connect to online services.
  • Fix video playback speed/stutter in METAL GEAR SOLID V: THE PHANTOM PAIN.
  • Fix Halo Infinite intro video playing in a wrong language.

How to swap to Proton Experimental:

Steam Deck

  • Pick a game and head to the little COG icon on the right.
  • Click Properties, then Compatibility on the left.
  • Make sure the tickbox is done, then select it from the dropdown.

Linux Desktop

  • Right click a game, go to Properties.
  • Compatibility on the left.
  • Make sure the tickbox is done, then select it from the dropdown.

I can finally give my phone a break now that Snap works on Linux.
Since several version ago, I have a regression with Proton Experimental with games that use mp4 files like Back4Blood or Borderlands 3..

Proton is missing proprietary video codecs. Use proton-ge-custom instead which is built with this codecsupport. Should run fine with it.

With PROTON NEXT (7.0-5), it works fine... SO it must be something bad with the experimental build.
