Even more games get even more fixes in the latest release of Proton Experimental from Valve for Steam Deck and desktop Linux so here's what's changed.

The latest update was released September 7th and notes these as newly playable:

  • EverQuest 2.
  • Soulworker.
  • Welcome to Princeland.

Other fixes included:

  • Fixed not being able to interact with minimum requirements prompt in Metro Exodus Enhanced Edition.
  • Fixed videos in Empyrion - Galactic Survival and Sword Art Online: Integral Factor not working on certain setups.
  • Improved video playback in THE KING OF FIGHTERS XV.
  • Fixed a few Proton 8.0 regressions:
    • Witcher 3 is able to switch between windowed and fullscreen correctly on XFCE again.
    • Echo (751320) works again on Steam Deck.

How to change your Proton version:

Steam Deck:

  • Pick a game in your Library and head to the little cog icon on the right.
  • Click Properties, then Compatibility on the left.
  • Make sure the tickbox is done, then select Proton Experimental from the dropdown.

On a Linux desktop:

  • Right click a game, go to Properties.
  • Compatibility on the left.
  • Make sure the tickbox is done, then select Proton Experimental from the dropdown.

I reinstalled the huge ME PC Enhanced edition to try it out for a few minutes, then remembered how annoying the storyline and forced dialogue is and uninstalled it. -_-

doesn't metro exodus EE is native linux ? with A4 engine ? also what is different between normal and EE of games ? texture pack, rendering ? little bit confused. and why dont they make ee native linux for exodus ?

Does the gog version specify the differences? I’m pretty sure I remember the gog store page saying something about Ray tracing and if you don’t have a card that supports Ray tracing then don’t even bother with it.

Cool to see that Sword Art Online Integral Factor has been addressed specifically. Its PC port is extremely problematic...
