Phantom Fury gets Steam Deck Verified ahead of release

By - | Views: 30,639

Phantom Fury is a new FPS from Slipgate Ironworks and 3D Realms, taking place a few years after Ion Fury and it's going to be Steam Deck Verified for release.

While their team say it takes place after Ion Fury, they also say it's not a direct sequel, more of a "soft sequel" taking place in the same universe but it's more of a spin-off.

Releasing on April 23rd, the Steam page doesn't yet actually show the Steam Deck Verified status however 3D Realms posted about reaching it on X (formerly Twitter) which the official Valve OnDeck account reposted. Have a look at their explainer video below which talks about the setting and shows off various bits of gameplay:

Big fan of Ion Fury (I mean I've made several mods for it so obviously). I really hope this comes out good, even if the demo game me some doubts. Ion Fury and Voidpoint will still always be GOATs in my book. Fun fact, Ion Fury has a texture that has a Linux terminal for some of the computer screens in the game. They're obliviously big Linux fans!
Phantom Furry!

Slipgate Ironworks made the first "Bombshell" game, and it wasn't as well received as Ion Fury. Maybe they will fare better this time.

I hope this is good. Ion Fury was fantastic, but Voidpoint seems to care a LOT more about polish and quality than Slipgate Ironworks. Here's hoping this can bring the same level of professionalism as Voidpoint brought to Ion Fury, which IMO is the best Build game ever made.

I guess that's why their gates slip.

Slipgate Ironworks unfortunately has a history of quite awful releases and often sub-par design.
The catastrophic Kingpin remaster, the woefully mis-designed Graven, Bombshell... all of these were Slipgate's own work.

The games they were involved in which actually have very favourable reviews or previews, those were almost all games in which they did not lead development, but acted more as support.
Their art department is clearly staffed with very talented people, but their design, coding & QA? Seemingly not.

They are unfortunately taking lead for Phantom Fury, and not Voidpoint for whatever crazy reason.
I'm really not hopeful for this game.
