Wine 9.7 released with ARM improvements

By - | Views: 28,263

The Wine 9.7 development release is out now bringing with it the usual bug fixes, plus some ARM platform improvements for this Windows compatibility layer used in Proton.

What's new:

  • Build system support for ARM64X.
  • Some restructuration of the Vulkan driver interface.
  • WIDL improvements for ARM support as well as SLTG typelibs.

For bug fixes they noted 18 solved including issues for older Command & Conquer games, Oregon Trail II, osu!, Medieval II: Total War, BURIKO visual novel engine and more.

What is ARM64X? According to Microsoft:

Arm64X is a new type of binary that can contain both the classic Arm64 code and Arm64EC code together. This makes Arm64x compatible for both the classic Arm64 and Arm64EC processes on a Windows on Arm device and a particularly good fit for middleware or plugins that may be used by both ABIs.

Introduced in the Windows 11 SDK, the Arm64X binary is a type of Portable Executable (PE) file that works with both Windows 11 on Arm and Windows 10 on Arm. To build Arm64X binaries, see Build Arm64X Binaries.

maybe try unify gifs, must be interesting

BURIKO! A lot of VNs use that! Oh man, I don't know who's working on them, but there's been a steady slew of very VN-relevant improvements for quite a while now.

In this wine version in my case show interesting result with world racing using d8vk

this game have a curious audio formats combination, this put a hard test in wine

because for example engine sounds stay in wav (this format some times dont work), music sounds stay in wma and allow have custom playlist (in this support mp3, ogg and wma)

in my test when try add track to custom playlist sometimes game freeze or when try save changes (in my case after various times save changes)

in around 2 hours of gameplay, running without audio issues using a custom playlist with tracks in mp3, ogg and wma

really impressive this dont be possible in before wine versions
because when trying add tracks and save playlist game suddenly crash or try play some tracks in game for a short time after this game suddenly crash

respect cinematics stay in wmv but now still using mp4 magic dont work, now audio appear but in video dont show nothing and passing cinematics screen remains in black but gui sounds stay

however recent commit in wine seems them stay working on wmv
