The rough time for the gaming industry continues, with a report that EA have cancelled the Black Panther game along with closing Cliffhanger Games.
Only recently EA's Codemasters also dropped the license for the WRC games, with it moving to NACON. We also had the announcement recently where EA also cancelled multiple projects with layoffs at Apex developer Respawn.
Another blow for a whole lot of developers, as per the report from IGN who saw an email from EA Entertainment president Laura Miele. According to the email EA will focus mostly on a smaller set of franchises including Battlefield, The Sims, Skate, and Apex Legends. That and their upcoming Iron Man game, another Star Wars: Jedi game and Mass Effect.
I do hope the developers who now have to find another job will find something soon.
EA didn't respond for comment.
I wonder how much this has to do with Disney tanking the Marvel brand with one cinematic flop after another?
Probably nothing. The last few movies got much better reception at least. It's probably just that everything EA touches, dies.
