With combat that feels more like a faster and slashier Diablo / Path of Exile, the latest game from Hyperstrange is Hordes of Hunger and so far it's a lot of fun. Note: key provided for me.
Yes, I know, it really does seem like everyone is trying their hand at making some kind of survivorlike thing, but hey this is another one that actually feels a whole lot different. Not only is it actual proper 3D, but it's much more of an arena hack and slasher just with the progression style of Vampire Survivors with all the orb collecting and ridiculously overpowering yourself.
One fun addition here is also the quest system. During your run through each map, it will sprinkle in some quests for you to do while you're trying to slice your way through an increasingly powerful and varied horde of monsters.
Not a big fan of the camera system in it currently though, with constantly spinning it around to see enemies coming at me. There's two different camera types. One that's more like a third-person action game that's fully manual, which they say is more developed and one more experimental they said is more like Vampire Survivors with the view pulled up higher and the camera moves slightly by itself to help you (but you can still manually move it). Neither feel particularly great right now.

Highlights:
- Take up Arms - Craft your own unique build with a range of weapons and special attacks, from a nimble swordfighter to a heavy hammer-wielder. From the castle keep to the desolate remains of your village, fight smart and use the environment to your advantage with choke points, high ground, and breakable structures.
- Overcome the Horde - The monsters are unrelenting, but so are you. Gain destructive and defensive abilities with each level-up to become a finely tuned force to be reckoned with. Strike down swarms with sword aflame, call down lightning as you land, and defy death with divine contracts.
- Uncover the Truth - A father racked with guilt. A prisoner who shuns freedom. A mother covered in blood. Mirah may be the only one who can save her home, but she's not alone. Complete missions in each run to save others from the invasion and discover the true nature of the curse that plagues Mirah’s homeland.
Tested on Desktop Linux (Kubuntu 25.04) it's been smooth slashing on this one. No Linux specific issue, Proton just runs it like any other game. Click and play.
It's now in Early Access, and as you might expect there's plenty of rough edges, but seriously promising. They're estimating six months of Early Access to add in more quests, new weapons, new enemies, new maps, new skill tress and more.
If you love powering up characters during repeat runs and seeing how ridiculous things can get, this might be the game for you.
