S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Legends of the Zone Trilogy Enhanced Edition is out now, needs a workaround on Linux
GSC Game World have released the S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Legends of the Zone Trilogy Enhanced Edition now which includes S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chornobyl - Enhanced Edition, S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Clear Sky - Enhanced Edition and S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Prypiat - Enhanced Edition.
If you own the originals, you should receive the new editions for free. The Enhanced Editions also include the originals.

Each game comes with an assortment of upgrades including:
- Atmospheric visual enhancements including God Rays, Dynamic Screen Space Reflections, and Advanced Global Illumination effects.
- Redesigned water shaders, upgraded skyboxes, and wetness effects.
- Improved visuals with upscaled textures featuring more detailed NPCs and environment.
- Upgraded weapon Field of View and models.
- Multiple bugfixes and quality of life tweaks.
- Full gamepad support.
This also makes the series a much better fit on the Steam Deck too. Plus there's also Steam Workshop support and Cloud Saves as well.
The only one I actually own is S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Prypiat, so that's what I picked for some testing today, along with the latest Proton 10 Beta. Early reports from players on Steam have pushed all three Enhanced Editions rapidly into "Mostly Negative". Many noting it's a "blurry mess", so I wanted to see what's going on.
On Desktop Linux, the game will not run out of the box, and ends up giving a black screen with this error:
You can get around that by spoofing a Steam Deck, using this launch option:
SteamDeck=1 %command%
On Steam Deck however, the game does work out of the box.
Once getting into S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Prypiat - Enhanced Edition and fiddling with some settings here's some unfiltered shots of it on Max settings at 2560x1440. Running on Kubuntu 25.04, AMD Ryzen 5800X, Radeon RX 6800 XT on Mesa 25.0.3:
To me, the game doesn't look particularly blurry, certainly not to the level the Steam user reviews are suggesting. There's some slight blurry bits the further you are away but the picture is overall quite clear. And on Max settings, it seems to run well enough on Desktop Linux. Even with the enhancements though, I would have expected performance to be a fair bit higher than it is.

Looked fine to me and runs fluidly on my RX 6600 on high settings at over 70 fps. Good enough for me. I don't know what the almighty fuss about it being blurry is about.
Is there any point to the FSR option? It was off by default.
Edit: one incredibly annoying thing I did notice - I couldn't assign mouse buttons in the controls.

I understand why they would want to do this but it's a huge shame to do this to games that take place in fictional contexts.
Remember that these games also have the option to be run via openxray which also fixes bugs and adds qol enhancements.

The removal of Russian references is hugely ironic because STALKER itself is based on the book "Roadside Picnic" by the Brothers Strugatsky, who were outspokenly pro-Russian during the Soviet era. If they are gonna remove Russian things they might as well remove all mentions of the word STALKER because thats Russian too
The removal of Russian references is hugely ironic...
Can you blame a Ukrainian developer for doing it anyway? Especially when at least one of the original dev team members died in the war. Hard to care about concepts like irony when faced with the reality of an ongoing invasion.
This happened on the OG games for me as well, but the mouse cursor wasn't visible over the game, so I could just turn my second monitor off and the game would work fine.
Is anyone else having this issue?
Can I blame them? Yes. Like I said, if they are going to remove everything "Russian" they should remove all mentions of the word "STALKER" and any references to roadside picnic, otherwise its just hypocritical. The point I am making is if you are going to remove all "Russianness", you either remove all of it or none of it.
Plus its simply historical revisionism, as alot of Soviet monuments were removed and Soviet symbolism, something Ukraine played a big role in creating btw
In addition, legally GSC has nothing to do with Ukraine and is a Czech company
The point I am making is if you are going to remove all "Russianness", you either remove all of it or none of it.Okay, and why is that? Do you either eat a whole cow or no beef at all? Would make about as much sense.
They can do whatever they want with their own game. Let them be "hypocrites" or whatever, it's their choice.
In addition, legally GSC has nothing to do with Ukraine and is a Czech companyThis is false. I'm not going to spend time on this, but the company is majority owned by a Ukrainian, still based in Kyiv where it was founded, and the CEO is Ukrainian as well. They did move some of the team to a new Prague office in 2022 due to the war. Does that make it a Czech company?
EDIT to add:
Plus its simply historical revisionism, as alot of Soviet monuments were removed and Soviet symbolism, something Ukraine played a big role in creating btwThey removed these things from a game, not a museum or a history book. No need for drama.

Sorry for getting all worked up, it's a painful topic for me.
False equivalencies. But lets play along with your analogy. If you are killing the cow you dont just kill it for one small piece of meat (at least I hope not), you try to use all the meat.
They cant do "whatever they want", they are a company and represent public interest (as all companies do to an extent).
Actually its true - the "Ukrainian" who owns the company now is actually a Cypriote (since the original guy who owned it before no longer owns it) and the main development team for STALKER 2 moved to Czechia shortly after the war started. GSC is also now headquartered in Czechia, so it is officially a Czech company and has been since 2022.
It doesnt matter if its a "book" and that its a "video game". For many people, especially younger ones, this is how they learn or get exposed to history. It is said art represents culture and history. It is an issue when it represents revisonist history, especially when Ukraine has had an unfortunate history with historical revisionism that you can read about below:

@Linas
There is no relation between nazism and soviet symbols. They are two entirely different ideologies. People saying nonsense like this is exactly why revisonist history in video games and elsewhere is a huge problem. And the Russians dont need to "destroy Europe", Europe is doing a great job of it itself with banning political parties and cancelling election results it doesnt like.

Sure, there were differences, but not in a good vs. evil sense. Both were violent genocidal regimes fighting over influence. The reason why they were on opposite sides is because both wanted control over Europe.
My people did not join the soviet empire willingly. Many were deported to concentration camps in Siberia and died there. Others died fighting. We did not want nazis and we did not want soviets, but neither cared about what we wanted. So yeah, I don't see much of a difference.

Their ideology was compeletly opposite and while the nazis were genocidal the same cannot be said of the soviets. There is alit of propaganda claiming that now, but its simply not true.
Are you from the Baltics? If so, the Baltic states (particularly Latvia and Estonia) played a huge role in the formation of the Soviet Union. If you are from Poland, it was never part of the USSR. We cannot forget the collaboration of the Baltic States with the nazis as well and their curreht sympathies towards them to this day
The reason they were on opposite sides was because the "civilized" Germans and European helping them wanted to exterminate them.
Both of them failed to control Europe - now the Americans do. Given how the Americans are acting towards Europe currently, and how much the Europeans love them I find it funny

Same re: Lecturing Ukrainians about how they're allowed to react to Russia. I actually am of the opinion that Russia started that war largely because of NATO, particularly US, determination to encircle and ultimately overthrow and dismember Russia. If NATO, in response to Putin's repeated requests escalating to demands, had just said OK, we won't try to bring Ukraine into NATO and arm it to the teeth, there probably would have been no war. And Ukrainian political elites played into that game. But if you're Ukrainian, none of that really matters at this point, you have no responsibility not to hate the people who've been killing your countrymen and destroying your stuff on the basis that geopolitics made them do it. An outsider trying to tell Ukrainians in what manner it would be legit for them to censor Russian content from something they're making is just being incredibly tone deaf and arrogant.
