Ahead of the release of DOOM: The Dark Ages on May 15th, Valve have released an update for SteamOS for Steam Deck to get it to actually run.
That doesn't mean it will actually perform well, just that the game will actually run on SteamOS. Good for when Valve actually release that Beta for more devices too. Considering DOOM: The Dark Ages has Ray Tracing as a requirement, it probably wasn't going to run great on the Steam Deck.

Note: This update is for the Steam Deck Preview channel, and includes new features that are still being tested. You can opt into this in Settings > System > System Update Channel.

I was vaguely excited about the new Doom, then I visited the Steam page.

Almost any single one of these red-flags would prevent me buying a game. But four? Good job, Bethesda. Very thorough.

I can't imagine playing Doom on a Steam Deck would be a particularly pleasant thing to do. Maybe OG Doom. Since it was designed, so that is probably a bigger limitation. Anyway, I'm with scaine on this one. Denuvo puts it monetary value at zero, so that makes it overpriced by definition.

I can't imagine playing Doom on a Steam Deck would be a particularly pleasant thing to do.DOOM 2016/Eternal worked really well on the Steam Deck. Not only are the games actually very fine tuned for controller support despite being fast paced FPS games, but the Deck helps even more with gyro and the advanced control configurations it gets by default. The games were even well received on the Switch, so it is a shame that Dark Ages doesn't get good handheld support as of now.
The ROG Ally barely holds 30FPS at the absolute lowest so the Deck definitely won't be playing this game well. Forced ray-tracing is probably holding it back on the handhelds, for shame.
