Borderlands 4 now up for pre-order with some post-launch content revealed

Despite the talk of Borderlands 4 potentially being $80, the pre-orders are up and the standard edition comes in at £59.99 / $69.99. That's still $10 / £10 more than Borderlands 3 was at release, but with the spiralling cost of these huge games (and the big salaries for the people at the top) it's not really a surprise to see the price is higher than before.

However there is an even higher priced Deluxe Edition for $99.99 / £89.99 and a Super Deluxe Edition for $129.99 / £119.99 which is going into madness territory but they come with post-launch DLC packs included and other assorted cosmetics.

Seems the higher prices are very much here to stay for the bigger AAA lot. Now that Microsoft and Nintendo are bumping prices up, others will see fit to follow along.

For post-launch content they mentioned a mixture of free and paid additions coming including "paid DLC can include two new Vault Hunters, all-new regions of Kairos, new story missions, side missions, challenges, enemies, and more. Full details will be revealed at a later date".

More about the game is going to be revealed during Borderlands Fan Fest on June 21, including a new story trailer. The game is set for release on September 12th. I should also note it has two different forms of DRM included with both Denuvo and Symbiote.

From the press release:

“I’ve been blown away by how high the team at Gearbox have raised the bar for Borderlands 4,” said David Ismailer, President of 2K. “The development team crafted a premium AAA adventure that evolves the series’ gameplay and storytelling in new ways, while delivering on the quintessential Borderlands looter-shooter experience fans know and love.”

"Borderlands 4 is the most excited the team and I have ever been to launch a Borderlands game," said Gearbox founder and President Randy Pitchford. "Borderlands 4 is the best entry point for new players while also being a heartfelt love letter to fans of the original games."

Will you be buying it at release? Pre-ordering? Waiting for a sale? Skipping it entirely?

So they thought one layer of additional DRM was not enough and decided to add another one?

Just having Denuvo is enough for me to discard the thing, but the high price, another DRM layer and Randy Pitchfork declarations make it a no-no-no-no.

This'll be the first Borderlands game I won't buy. Thanks Denuvo. It helps that Randy Pitchford is a tone-deaf eejit (claiming "real gamers" won't mind the price hike in this latest instalment of his series).

It's a shame he's swallowed Denuvo's marketing BS. And then... doubled down with Symbiote? What the hell.

Borderlands has always been a "meh" series for me, kinda fun, but my interest always fell off super fast. Never could stay playing any of them for very long. So I'll probably pick this up, but several years from now when it's like $10 or something.

Edit: also this has to be the most hilariously tone deaf cash grabs of all time:

It's a "Borderlands 4 ECHO-4 Bundle" ..... that DOESN'T INCLUDE THE GAME!!!!!!!!!! bahahahahhahahahha omg that's hilarious.

Skipping it entirely?

Yeah, that sounds good. I think I'll have one of those, thank you.

I hadn't noticed the multi-DRMs built in until reading comments. There's no way I'm preordering what might not even work on Linux.

FPS: Can't do 'em, so nope.

Multiple DRM: Even if FPS games didn't give me severe vertigo, this would become the other reason to give this one a pass.

Now that Gen X is in charge this Gen X meme comes to mind.

They'll charge you $150 and you'll like it!!!

I've loved this game series since 2, I've played all of them. But I won't be pre-ordering 4 anymore, I don't like it and don't want the base game to be only a part of the full game, if you want to play the full one you still have to pay exorbitantly much more, maybe with a discount I'll consider it, but there are so many fun games nowadays I'd much rather pay a reasonable price for a reasonable game than what I'm paying now.

Two stupid DRM-Layers and the new, braindead EULA (including bans for VPNs, Mods, VMs and very broad data-siphoning) are already more than enough to give the middlefinger instead of money.
The pricing is just the icing on the cake..
