Go back in time to the land of the dinos in the excellent demo for Theropods

Theropods is an upcoming point and click adventure that combines puzzles with a cinematic story. The demo in Steam Next Fest is quite impressive. It had me hooked from the intro sequence, not many retro point and click adventures can do that to me.

The way it beautifully blends the pixel art point and clicking with the animations, funny audio and the cinematic aspect to it really could be something special. It has been a long time coming, and seems like the wait will be worth it based on the quality demo.

"We started Theropods as a tiny Flash game in a 2015 game jam," said Kostas Skiftas and Sarah Duffield-Harding, developers of Theropods and founders of Lost Token. "Over the years, we faced numerous setbacks and were driven by passion alone. What carried us through wasn’t a single innovation, but a quiet, persistent belief in the game’s unique voice and its potential to connect with players."

Game Highlights:

  • Prehistoric Puzzle Adventure – Explore a lush world where dinosaurs and humans cross paths.
  • Cinematic Pixel Art – Hand-animated frame-by-frame, then transformed into stunning pixel art.
  • Classic Point-and-Click, Modern Feel – Streamlined, intuitive mechanics with zero hand-holding.
  • Sci-Fi Surprises – A layered story that evolves into something far stranger than expected.

Do check this one out. There's a Native Linux version of the demo available now. Initially they had a problem with the Linux launch configuration, but this has now been solved and it runs great.

I already got stuck at the very first puzzle because i couldn't figure out how to put the mug back together… The game could go a long way in explaining its mechanics better ngl.
