I cannot stress enough the joy I felt building up a vehicle in TerraTech Legion, another survivor-like game with a build your own twist.

Listen here dear reader, I am on a quest to play basically every Vampire Survivor-like thing that gets created. The original simplicity of the idea has really just hooked its teeth into me. The survivor-like bullet heaven whateveryacallit genre has so much going for it because the games are usually priced cheaply enough, and have hours and hours of entertainment mixed with being able to pick up and play when you don't have a lot of time. I love them. And, I love how so many developers have taken the basic idea and put some sweet new spin on it.

And so, I give you, TerraTech Legion. Coming from Payload Studios, who also made the original TerraTech and TerraTech Worlds. Games where you craft a vehicle using blocks stuck together and go exploring. Payload have taken that building idea and put it into a survivor-like. You start off with a crappy silly looking block on wheels, and gradually level up as you face the hordes and get new blocks to attach stuff wherever you want.

What makes things really interesting is how your weapons are placed. A lot of the turrets have a single direction of attack, so not only is the direction you place them on your vehicle important, it also makes the direction you face during the battle important. And over time, you just build up some blocky monstrosity. Certain weapons do rotate though, but it's a fun change of all weapons auto-firing everywhere.

This is exactly what the genre is all about. Becoming overpowered to the point it becomes otherworldly stupid. And, now you get to do it in a block of turrets on wheels. What the heck is not to love about that?

I need more, right now. How dare you tease me like this Payload Studios.

Check out the Steam Next Fest demo. It worked perfectly on Desktop Linux with the latest Proton 9.0-4.
