The first-person open-world factory building game Satisfactory just had a massive v1.1 update, bringing controller support and a lot more. This should make it a lot easier to relax with, and make it better on handhelds like the Steam Deck too (it's rated Playable by Valve).
For players on Steam Deck they said it will "recognize you’re running Steam OS and will default to Controller so things should work out of the box now".
I've always wanted to do a proper run of it, but more and more I very much prefer a controller in my hands. Looks like now I don't have an excuse (except for playing Dune).
Big features added include:
- Controller support allows players to sit back and relax with their preferred device for the ultimate factory-building experience. With Xbox and DualSense™ controller compatibility, players can now enjoy smooth and responsive gameplay all in the palm of their hands, bringing further accessibility and comfort to MASSAGE-2 (A-B)b.
- Photo Mode has received a complete overhaul with Update 1.1, with a refreshed user interface and settings for Pioneers to explore. Players can produce their most imaginative creations with new photo features like colour adjustments, filters, effects, poses, and camera control lenses. This updated Photo Mode also introduces a Dolly Mode, allowing the most artistic Pioneers to create transitions and videos using the in-game system.
- Additional conveyor buildings make production smarter and sleeker than before. The Conveyor Throughput Monitor lets Pioneers run calculations on their production lines to ensure the utmost efficiency. Meanwhile, the Conveyor Wall Hole lets Pioneers maximise their factory floor space, allowing conveyor belts to pass cleanly through walls, without compromising on aesthetics. Last but not least, the Priority Merger enables players to prioritise which active inputs should be output first — perfect for pick ‘n mix production lines.
- Changes to railway systems bring the realism with more complex train mechanics than before. Runaway trains are now here, meaning trains will completely derail if not stopped before the end of the line. The solution is the brand new Buffer Stops which Pioneers can use to halt trains in their tracks… or skip the safety mechanism entirely to create barreling freight trains.
- Improved Pioneer travel options allow Pioneers to navigate their Hypertube systems with even more flexibility. The Hypertube Junction allows players to connect a hypertube to three different paths, while the Hypertube Branch can split into two paths. These additions enable greater control and customisation of Hypertube networks. Meanwhile, the Personnel Elevator enables incremental vertical travel, allowing Pioneers to name floors and customise button icons and colours to easily navigate multi-floored factories.
- A mountain of quality-of-life improvements including Straight and Curved Pipeline build modes, improvements to Nudging allowing for vertical movement and unlimited range, and soft clearance for Conveyor Poles and Pipelines. Alongside this, the highly requested “No Fuel” setting is now available in Advanced Game settings, removing the need to power vehicles to get moving.
That's not everything though, just the main highlights.

It's a shame they don't allow simultaneous mouse+keyboard and gamepad input. There is a ton of other seemingly-simple and often-requested features on their tracker, plus a few annoying bugs, but it looks like the devs don't have much time to spare (understandable since they manage multiple games at once) and prefer to focus on more marketable features.
Oh well, that's life, I am glad that they still update it at all, though it does make me itch to build an open source equivalent.
