On top of the recent Steam Deck / SteamOS update, Valve also released a desktop Steam Beta that should solve issues in games with the Steam Overlay disabled. I wrote about the issue with the Steam Overlay, although there was a workaround it's good to see a fix now available for testing.
From the June 2nd Steam Client Beta:
General
- Fixed events not showing spoiler sections when events were being shown in the library.
- Fixed events showing blurred images in the library for games with adult content.
- Fixed links opened from desktop chat opening in Steam browser before opening in desktop browser.
Steam Overlay
- Fixed periodic gameplay lag and freezing in games using Vulkan rendering when running with Steam Overlay disabled.
- Fixed timer continuing to alert after game exit if running in repeat mode.
SteamVR
- Fixed intermittent steamwebhelper crash when exiting VR mode.
Linux
- Improved steam client update installation speed. In some pathological cases this operation could take minutes to complete, when the expected completion time is seconds.
Big Picture
- Fixed X, Y, trigger and other buttons being treated as simulated mouse input on the Steam Store.
The fix notes it's for Vulkan so that will apply to any Native Linux game using Vulkan, as well as running Windows games with Proton.

I always had the impression this was related to game recording and not the Steam overlay

I found really strange bug after the latest update. I'm using my BT PS4 gamepad to wake up Steam Deck (really great feature). But when the gamepad is put into sleep and woke up again, it takes almost a minute till it's starts working again (the LED on the gamepad is going from blue to red and back).
