I can't wait to see what the community cooks up for Dwarf Fortress, with the latest update bringing much more advanced modding capabilities to the game.

While the old way of modding the game will still work, this new way brings a lot more options. The new system uses Lua, with a lot of previously hard-coded options now open for modders to do whatever they like. There's a lot that's open for it including inorganic materials, languages, creatures, interactions, various items, reactions, entities, and plants. The developers said this update also acts as the foundation for the upcoming "procedural magic system which will be added to all modes".
