NVIDIA are continuing to make us guess what's included in their updates with the NVIDIA driver 570.172.08 release today.
This is part of their Recommended/Certified driver series, their main stable series that updates a bit slower with new features compared with the New Feature Branch. Much like NVIDIA did with the recent driver 575.64.03 release, they're being rather vague as they channel mobile app store changelog energy with this.
The entire changelog is:
- Minor bug fixes and improvements
Yep. And unlike the 575.64.03 release, they haven't stealthily added RTX 5050 support to it as that's not currently listed in the supported products for this driver.
At this point I can only speculate, as it's not even listed yet on the NVIDIA open-gpu-kernel-modules GitHub to sleuth through. Perhaps we might see some more security issues get revealed in a few weeks / month, which would make some sense on why they're being repeatedly vague with these latest two driver updates as to not give anything away but get people updated and prepared. Potentially related to Rowhammer that they recently put up a security bulletin on. It could also be nothing of the sort - we just don't know.
Update at 16:50 UTC - now that it's actually up on the open-gpu-kernel-modules GitHub, we can see they did in fact tag RTX 5050 as supported with this release, despite the models missing from the driver update page.
I've emailed NVIDIA this time to see if we can get some clearer details.
