Valve launched a brand new update for Proton Experimental, their testing ground for running Windows games on Linux, SteamOS and Steam Deck systems.

All the changes listed below are for the July 2nd update to Proton Experimental. In case you missed it, Proton 10 also had a release candidate update available for testing recently. If you're at all confused, GamingOnLinux has a guide for all the different Proton versions.

Listed as now playable includes:

  • The Riftbreaker: Multiplayer Playtest.
  • Post Mortem.

Bug fixes:

  • Fixed The First Berserker: Khazan wrongly displaying a warning about the drive the game is installed on.
  • Fixed seeking through videos in VRChat when using AVPro.
  • Fixed rendering issues in VR Slots 3D.
  • Fixed Proton 10 regressions:
    • Digseum is playable again.
    • Resident Evil 2 should no longer have issues when changing resolutions on GNOME.
    • Crashlands 2 intro video is no longer distorted.
    • Malody V is playable again.
    • Videos in Resident Evil 7 Biohazard should play at a normal speed again on Steam Decks.

Other tweaks:

  • Disabled Xalia for Rockstar Launcher - aftar a recent update it got native contoller support which resulted in registering events twice.
  • Disabled Xalia for winforms applications (e.g. Imperiums: Greek Wars launcher) due to compatibility issues.

Note: Xalia is the open source tool that Proton integrates to give gamepad controls for launchers.

Oh well. I'm still waiting for them to fix "the Alters" which is still thoroughly FUBAR, which is a bit surprising because it's unreal engine.
