Valve put out a small update to Proton Experimental to begin the weekend, with fixes for the Epic Games Store and a few games for Linux, SteamOS and Steam Deck.

Here's all the changes below for the July 11th update:

  • Fixed experimental regressions:
    • RiME should no longer exhibit weird windowing behavior when Alt+Tabbing on certain setups.
  • Fixed intro video in Warhammer 40,000: Dakka Squadron - Flyboyz Edition having no audio.
  • Fixed Warrior Maiden Lecia and the Lost Fortress hanging on exit.
  • Fixed video playback in Roboquest.
  • Fixed sending feedback not working in Cosmoteer: Starship Architect & Commander.
  • Fixed Teardown hanging when publishing a mod to the workshop.
  • Fixed a recent update causing Epic Games Store not launching under Proton.

For anyone confused why Epic Games Store is noted it's because you can install it using Proton inside of Steam. I mentioned to Proton developers while working on that linked guide that it was broken, and it was fixed in the bleeding-edge Beta only a day later and now it's in Proton Experimental proper.

Hey, I heard you like game launchers, so now you can launch your game launcher from inside your other game launcher…

It feels to me that the Epic launcher itself is what keeps updating itself to break with Proton and Linux which has made me extremely hesitant to buy any games from there. Feels like Epic is trying to put people off from any angle they can find. And I'm someone who does give them the benefit of the doubt, after all you can find DRM-free games on there, but the store/launcher/overlay experience is just awful across the board.

Would any other company other than Valve have a fix in one day if a competitors launchers could not launch from inside their own launcher? :)

can just use heroic launcher for epic's store games honestly n then add them to steam ,.. still this is nice for those deck users who might try using it thru steam i guess .
