The Alters from 11 bit studios appears to be doing very well, apart from the controversy over the AI generated bits. A new patch is out to fix it up.
Back in June, there was a lot going around about players discovering some AI generated assets in the game, which were not disclosed on store pages like Steam. Not a lot, but enough that it caused a bit of an uproar. The developer posted on social media (like Bluesky) with a statement to clear it up noting that they were meant as placeholders. There were also some AI translations for a few licensed in-game movies in the social area that were done due to "extreme time constraints" they had planned to replace.

With patch 1.1.0, this should all be cleared up now, as noted:
Localization and VOs:
- Multiple missing and wrong translations.
- Occasional missing voiceovers.
- Replaced LLM generated text on Command Center asset.
- Replaced machine translated subtitles in Social Room movies.
A fair amount of bug fixes came with this update too like a Steam Deck crash when progressing onto a new chapter. Nice to see direct fixes like that.
The developer also recently revealed that less than a month after release it sold over 280,000 copies as well.
Seems like a fun game, I had a good time with the demo as well, but LOL at these devs. Just what on earth.
@liam - I also tried windowed mode, wouldn't work. Didn't try gamescope, but there are just so many bad reports about this game, I just wanted my money back at that point.

Then there's this review - someone who actually did get it to work on Linux, submitted a bug report and it was instantly closed with "Linux is not supported". They bravely kept comments open on that review too, and it's interesting to see that some actual snowflake on the internet has created multiple bots that post a copypasta response, slagging Linux. Pretty pathetic. I guess that's the internet today.

Anyway - crappy Linux support, crappy support in general, non-apology for inappropriate and un-needed use of AI, failed to notify Steam that AI was used (and still hasn't updated their page to note its use, naughty), and pledged to use AI in future. I'm out. G'bye 11bit. There were some fun times before you got big enough to treat customers like a number.
Here's their Publisher page if you want to block them, like I just did:
