Naughty Dog and Iron Galaxy Studios just released a fresh update for The Last of Us Part I with more improvements for all platforms.

Really nice to see them supporting it this long after the PC release with additional upgrades. Hard to believe that was over 2 years ago now (is time speeding up?). It's certainly come a very long way since the initial rough release.

For Steam Deck players, hopefully some audio troubles will be resolved with this update! There's also now AMD FSR 4 and other general improvements.

The full listed changelog:

General

  • Various performance optimisations.
  • Various crash fixes and stability improvements.

Steam Deck

  • Improved an issue where distorted or degraded audio could be heard in certain areas.

AMD

  • AMD FSR 4 support added for compatible AMD Radeon GPUs.
  • AMD FSR version is now displayed based on driver information.

The Last of Us Part I | Release Date: 28th March 2023

If you really want to try it out, there are guides out there that show you how to use FSR4 on Linux but official support is still ongoing and making some progress. Here's one video that shows how to get FSR4 on Linux: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ajHRwWvem1M

That's excellent. Looking much sooner than I thought.

It's just that the headline is somewhat misleading. There is a fix for Linux sound, and FSR 4 for AMD GPUs. i.e. video cards in PCs. FSR 4 requires dedicated AI acceleration chips to work, and the Steam Deck doesn't have that.

Well... I may or may not have in my hands one of those RDNA4 cards that suport FSR4, and may or may not have this particular game, but of course, who would be so crazy to try an unofficial unsupported workaround to get FSR4 on Linux. I am absolutely not rebuilding Mesa as we speak, that would be crazy.
