Farlight 84 has relaunched with a massive new upgrade that brings a first-person mode, but it's sadly now broken on Linux, SteamOS / Steam Deck.
It's not entirely clear if this is an anti-cheat issue, or if it's something that Valve now need to fix in the Proton compatibility layer for the fresh update. You can load into the menus just fine, but it will rapidly crash and quit to your Steam Library barely a few minutes into a match.
I'm hoping it's just another Hunt: Showdown 1896 situation, or the numerous times THE FINALS gets momentarily broken instead of being actively blocked like Apex Legends and many others. The bug has been logged on Valve's Proton GitHub page for it.
Currently, their Discord support team are simply telling people "the game does not support running under Linux" and just tell people to use Windows. I've sent off an email to their press team to see if we can get a clearer answer.
For now, our anti-cheat page is listing it as broken until we see what's going on. Be sure to keep an eye on that page for any changes to this and other games. Anti-cheat is proving to be a constant nuisance for gaming on Linux. One day I really hope Valve can solve this repeating issue.

One day I really hope Valve can solve this repeating issue.The games are looking forensically for any behaviour that's not Windows; Wine is never going to be Windows. There's nothing Valve can do to change that; at best they can persuade developers not to automatically consider not-Windows as evidence of a cheating cheater by itself, and the weight of that persuasion is only going to come from market share.

Yet another regular day of live-services on Linux.It's actually even a little worse than that.
I've seen some reports of developers (not necessarily game devs, but any coding) who are running some WSL ( Windows Subsystem for Linux ) for development - and somehow some of that running while a game was running triggered some anti cheat systems to flag them.
So even Windows people just running some Linux stuff for completely unrelated reasons get hit by this nonsense...
This will only stop if the share increases to something like 5-10%.
Or whatever number is needed for publishers to no longer outright ignore a chunk of their customers.

It’s like saying
The internet broke down at your house? Just move!
Yes we need market share to keep growing (like it is) but in the mean time I think we all need to start making some noise and let these companies know that we are here and want to play, better than just sitting back and taking it each time.
I'm not saying it will not much good but after watching a few youtube videos about this problem and seeing others do the same, I think its the only option we have at the moment, that and continue to support those devs who support us Linux users.
Oh we can still try and recommend Linux to others, as I have also seen more youtube videos with people trying out Linux, so lets get behind that as well.
Lets hope Valve can come up with some better options and maybe push for server side anticheat.
